<\/p>\n WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. \u2013 Five Union College baseball pitchers combined to shut out Williams College 8-0 at Bobby Coombs Field Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n Sophomore Ryan Calvario<\/a> was the fourth Garnet Charger to take the mound against Williams (10-18) and earned the win after Union (14-16) scored seven of its eight runs in the top\u00a0of the eighth inning. Calvario entered the game in the seventh and struck out one.<\/p>\n First-year Evan Lagemann<\/a> drove in a pair of runs in that eighth inning and was one of three Garnet Chargers with multiple hits on the day, joining senior Andrew Keaveney<\/a> and sophomore Michael Del<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n While it took Union eight innings to score, the Garnet Chargers did have runners on base in every frame except the first and fifth. The road team nearly struck first in the third inning after Del led off with one of his two hits. Senior Nico Lambros<\/a> moved him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, and after Del advanced to third on a wild pitch, he was cut down trying to score on a grounder to third off the bat of first-year Jack McKillop<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n First-year Lucas Miller<\/a> started the game for Union and set the tone with a pair of perfect innings. Senior Jack Klein<\/a> was the first arm out of the bullpen and extended his scoreless innings streak to five despite allowing Williams its\u00a0first hit of the game. Senior Anthony Izzo<\/a> allowed the most traffic of any of Union’s pitchers but also produced the most swing-and-miss with four Ks in two trips to the mound.<\/p>\n Union finally broke the scoreless tie in the eighth beginning with a single by sophomore Dylan Swarts<\/a>. He later scored on a bunt from Keaveney with the bases loaded. First-year Dennis Mulhearn<\/a>, Lagemann, Del, and Lambros also drove in runs\u00a0in the big inning as Union scored seven runs on five hits, one walk, one hit-by-pitch, and one Ephs error.\u00a0<\/p>\n Keaveney gave Union one more insurance run in the ninth for his second RBI of the day, allowing Miller to score for the second time. Miller has nine games with 2+ runs scored this season, and Keaveney has seven games with multiple runs batted in.<\/p>\n Swarts was back on the mound for the second week in a row to close out a game against a NESCAC opponent and struck out two Williams batters to complete Union’s first shutout since March 16, 2025 against Russell Sage College.\u00a0<\/p>\n Union takes on Skidmore College on the road with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, April 23. Two wins in that three-game set with Skidmore will guarantee Union a spot in the Liberty League Crossover Series.
