The Orioles\u2019 training room door continues to be a revolving one. <\/p>\n
Right-hander Dean Kremer is the latest player to land on the injured list, with his right quad strain resulting in a 15-day stint (retroactive to April 20). In Kremer\u2019s place comes right-hander Brandon Young.<\/p>\n
Young is a capable replacement, and he will start for the Orioles during Friday\u2019s series opener against the Boston Red Sox at Camden Yards. Between the majors and Triple-A, Young has only allowed two runs in 21 2\/3 innings. His lone big league appearance came as a spot starter, and he impressed against the Chicago White Sox<\/a> with five scoreless frames. <\/p>\n Young has limited opposing batters to eight hits and five walks while striking out 21.<\/p>\n Still, losing Kremer for any period of time adds another wrinkle to the rotation. Baltimore is already without right-hander Zach Eflin for the rest of the season <\/a>after he underwent Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery. That dug into the Orioles\u2019 depth immediately.<\/p>\n It\u2019s unclear as of yet when and how this right quad strain became an issue for Kremer. The injury is backdated the maximum three days, which indicates it\u2019s not an injury that just cropped up. Kremer pitched April 18 against the Cleveland Guardians<\/a> and did well, allowing three runs in six innings with only two hits against him.<\/p>\n That was his second start of the season. Kremer began the year in Triple-A<\/a> but arrived to start against the Arizona Diamondbacks during the homestand. He produced five innings with four runs (two earned) against him in that season debut<\/a>, although he gave up three home runs.<\/p>\n The Orioles\u2019 injured list is crowded, but outfielder Tyler O\u2019Neill should be nearing a return momentarily. He is eligible to be activated off the seven-day concussion list and he passed most benchmarks, in terms of hitting, running and fielding, while the team was in Kansas City. It remains to be seen if O\u2019Neill requires a rehab assignment, though.<\/p>\n With O\u2019Neill and Kremer, there are 13 players on the major league injured list: Jackson Holliday, Heston Kjerstad, Keegan Akin, Andrew Kittredge, Colin Selby, Dietrich Enns, Yaramil Hiraldo, F\u00e9lix Bautista, Jordan Westburg, Ryan Mountcastle and Eflin.<\/p>\n The most recent updates among those players are for Holliday and Hiraldo. This week, Hiraldo went to receive a second opinion on his shoulder inflammation from Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
