Baseball fans are used to seeing Shohei Ohtani<\/a> do impressive things on a baseball diamond.<\/p>\n

The way the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>‘ game with the Miami Marlins<\/a> ended on Wednesday was anything but that.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, trailing by a run.<\/p>\n

Freddie Freeman<\/a> was hitting, and Ohtani was on first base.<\/p>\n

Freeman hit a chopper toward second baseman Xavier Edwards<\/a>, and Ohtani began to run toward second.<\/p>\n

But then, a conundrum. Ohtani realized he wouldn’t get past Edwards before the speedy second baseman fielded the baseball. So Ohtani decided to stop moving.<\/p>\n

Then, he made what may have been a backfiring choice. He started running back toward first.<\/p>\n

That did make Edwards chase him, but it also allowed Edwards to go toward the bag Freeman was running toward.<\/p>\n

So as it turned out, Edwards tagged Ohtani and then stepped on first to complete the game-ending double play.<\/p>\n

Fans criticized Ohtani’s move here, but it’s a tough one. Was there anywhere he could’ve gone to distract Edwards for long enough to let Freeman reach first (and in doing so, let the tying run get home)?<\/p>\n

Maybe if he tries to juke Edwards and the Marlins player wastes time chasing him out of the baseline, but otherwise, this ball was hit in the nightmare spot for the Dodgers.<\/p>\n

Still, it was bizarre to see Ohtani in such trouble. Usually he’s the guy putting other teams in tough spots, but not this time.<\/p>\n
