The New York Mets<\/a> announced on Thursday that they had designated one of the members from the Chicago Cubs<\/a> 2016 World Series champion team for assignment.<\/p>\n

Right-hander Carl Edwards Jr. signed a minor league deal with the Mets in December and appeared in just two Major League games with the Mets before the DFA.<\/p>\n

“A key member of the Cubs\u2019 bullpen from 2016-18, Edwards has bounced around the league in the eight years since,” Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors<\/a> wrote Thursday. “The Mets are Edwards\u2019 ninth club in the majors, and this year\u2019s six innings already tie his highest single-season workload since 2023.”<\/p>\n

Edwards was impressive during his six innings in Queens, striking out 11 of the 25 batters he faced.<\/p>\n

He will turn 35 in September and may have to settle for another minor league contract if he does not remain in the organization.<\/p>\n

The Mets have five days to trade, release, or place Edwards on waivers. Outfielder Luis Robert Jr. was announced as going on the injured list<\/a> in the same update.<\/p>\n

Right-hander Austin Warren<\/a> and third\/first baseman Eric Wagaman<\/a> had their contracts selected from Triple-A Syracuse in corresponding moves.<\/p>\n
