This article was written before lineups were announced.

Make your DraftKings MLB DFS picks here: MLB $125K Relay Throw [$25K to 1st]

PITCHER

Stud

Michael King, San Diego Padres vs. Chicago White Sox, $8,500 — King has a 25.4% strikeout rate and a 2.41 ERA. He’s allowed only three home runs in 33.2 innings. He has some bugaboos, though, as the walk rate is 11.2% and he’s gotten lucky with a .218 BABIP and 83.3% strand rate. That said, Chicago is fourth in strikeouts and, while the ISO is 12th, the wOBA and wRC+ are both 21st. King has put up double-digit FPTS in every start this season with the last three each over 20 FPTS.

Value

Chase Dollander, Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves, $5,400 — The matchup is a tough one as Atlanta is only 27th in strikeouts while being third in ISO, third in wOBA and fourth in wRC+. AND the game is in Coors Field. Scary scary. But, Dollander has actually been better at home than on the road, posting a 1.74 ERA in 10.1 innings against San Diego and Philadelphia. Dollander averages 99.1 mph on the fastball and is posting a 30% strikeout rate with a 6.9% walk rate. He’s changed the pitch mix from last season, throwing the slider and changeup more while decreasing the fastball usage. Could he get blasted? Absolutely, but the risk/reward seems favorable, especially since the price is super cheap and the ownership should be low. In addition, many will likely stack the Braves against Dollander. Dollander has put up double-digit FPTS in six of seven games. The last three outings have been 29.6, 25.9 and 31.6 FPTS.

INFIELD

Stud

Max Muncy, Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals, $4,700 — Muncy has nine home runs on the season with a slash of .287/.374/.594. The ISO is a robust .307. Against right-handed pitching, the ISO is .282 with a wRC+ of 161. Michael McGreevy has a K-BB% of 12.6% with a barrel rate of 12.9%. He’s served up five home runs in 33.1 innings and the FIP of 4.27 is much higher than the 2.97 ERA. Against lefties, the K-BB% is only 6.6% while the FIP is 4.5. In addition, the Cardinals bullpen is 21st in FIP and 29th in K/9.

Ezequiel Duran, Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers, $2,400 — Duran doesn’t start every day, but he’s gotten the nod the last two days. Josh Smith could get the start at second base but he’s been struggling. In addition, Duran can also slot in at shortstop, left field and third base. Make sure he’s in the lineup before utilizing. It’s only been 46 plate appearances, but Duran has been crushing right-handed pitching, as the wRC+ is 141 while the slash is .326/.370/.488 with a .163 ISO.

OUTFIELD

Stud

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals, $6,500 — Ohtani has six home runs, 21 runs, 13 RBI and four stolen bases through 139 plate appearances. The slash is .273/.406/.491 but the ISO is “only” .218. Good for mortals, but not for a god like Ohtani. Over the last three seasons, the ISO has been .340, .336 and .350. L. O. L. It’s not a matter of if Ohtani gets hot. It’s when. Ohtani has put up double-digit FPTS in four of the last five games with a high of 31 FPTS. I went over McGreevy and the Cardinals bullpen in the Muncy section.

Nathan Church, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, $2,900 — Church is only slashing .235/.272/.435, but the ISO is .200 and the BABIP is only .250. He has five home runs and three stolen bases in 92 plate appearances. The average exit velocity is only 87.1 mph but the barrel rate is 13.8%. In addition, the bat speed has increased from 69 mph last season to 71 mph this season. Against right-handed pitching, Church has a 101 wRC+ and .233 ISO. Over the last six games, Church has three double-digit FPTS games with a high of 32 FPTS. Roki Sasaki has struggled this season with a 7.19 FIP and 12% walk rate. He’s allowed seven home runs in 22.2 innings, four of those to lefties. Against left-handed batters, the K-BB% is only 5.6% while the FIP is 6.67.

Stan Son gives his top studs and value plays for Saturday’s six-game fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings.
