The New York Mets<\/a> have agreed to a two-year, $11.5 million contract extension with catcher Luis Torrens<\/a>. The contract extension keeps Torrens with the Mets through the 2028 MLB<\/a> season.<\/p>\n

The decision comes after Torrens was set to be a free agent at the conclusion of the 2026 MLB season. The Mets, however, have decided to keep the backup catcher in Queens a bit longer.<\/p>\n

Torrens will receive $.75 million for the 2027 and 2028 MLB season. His extension also includes $2 million incentives.<\/p>\n

Torrens has been productive as a backup for the Mets ever since he arrived to the team in 2024. He signed for the Mets after the team acquired him from the New York Yankees<\/a> in exchange for cash consideration.<\/p>\n

Torrens has played 13 games this season and is hitting a .226 batting average. His statistics include 6 hits and 4 RBIs.<\/p>\n

The Venezuelan pitcher made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres<\/a> back in 2017. Torrens would be optioned to the Double-A Texas League for the entire 2018 season after dealing with an oblique injury during spring training.<\/p>\n
