{"id":689089,"date":"2026-05-03T08:06:30","date_gmt":"2026-05-03T08:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/689089\/"},"modified":"2026-05-03T08:06:30","modified_gmt":"2026-05-03T08:06:30","slug":"college-roundup-st-lawrence-university-baseball-records-road-sweep-of-union-to-advance-to-liberty-league-playoffs-college-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/689089\/","title":{"rendered":"College roundup: St. Lawrence University baseball records road sweep of Union to advance to Liberty League playoffs | College Sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SCHENECTADY \u2014 The St. Lawrence University baseball team delivered another clutch road victory on Saturday to advance in the Liberty League playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>The Saints defeated Union College, 5-3, to win its second game in as many days and sweep a league crossover series held at Central Park \u201cA\u201d Diamond.<\/p>\n<p>With the series victory, St. Lawrence improves to 20-14 and will advance to play in the conference\u2019s four-team double elimination tournament next weekend.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Joe LaPrade pitched seven strong innings to record the win for the Saints, scattering nine hits while allowing three runs and two walks while striking out three.<\/p>\n<p>Joshua Polumbo pitched two scoreless innings to post the save, his second of the season\/<\/p>\n<p>Jack Finnegan totaled three hits, including a home run and a double and drove in two runs for St. Lawrence.<\/p>\n<p>Also for the Saints, South Jefferson graduate Nolan Widrick also went 3-for-5, including hitting a pair of doubles, and knocked in a run.<\/p>\n<p>After Widrick doubled in a run in the third inning, Finnegan connected on a two-run home run in the fourth to stake St. Lawrence to a 5-0 advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Keaveney hit three singles and Jack McKillop doubled, singled and drove in a pair of runs for the Garnet Chargers (18-19).<\/p>\n<p>CLARKSON 8-0, ROCHESTER 4-1<\/p>\n<p>The Golden Knights won the first game, but were blanked by the Yellowjackets in the nightcap as the two teams split a two-game Liberty League crossover series played in Rochester.<\/p>\n<p>Beau Vardion doubled, singled and drove in three runs in the first game to pace Clarkson and Seth Albert tripled, singled and knocked in a pair of runs.<\/p>\n<p>Also for the Golden Knights, Nolan Merrow doubled, singled and knocked in a run and Ethan Harris hit two singles.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob Shirley pitched six innings, scattering seven hits while allowing three runs and striking out five to post the win, while Ryan Petrie tossed three innings, yielding one run on the way to registering the save for Clarkson.<\/p>\n<p>In the second game, Zach Herzog and James Nelson combined on a five-hit shutout, with Herzog pitching seven innings, striking out four and walking three to post the win for the University of Rochester (14-21).<\/p>\n<p>Nelson pitched two innings to record the save.<\/p>\n<p>Teddy Monahan of the Yellowjackets scored on a sacrifice fly by Jake Bentivenga for the game\u2019s lone run.<\/p>\n<p>Herzog outdueled Nathan Hartley, who allowed the one run on two hits and one walk while striking out three in taking the loss for Clarkson, which finishes its season at 17-17.<\/p>\n<p>JEFFERSON CC 10-3, CAYUGA CC 7-6<\/p>\n<p>The Cannoneers won the first game but went on to split a doubleheader with the Spartans in Mid-State Athletic Conference play in Auburn.<\/p>\n<p>Yuliano Lopez went 3-for-4 and drove in a run and Ryan Murnane and Nick Spivey each singled twice, driving in two and one run, respectively, for Jefferson Community College in the first game.<\/p>\n<p>Ancel Rossell singled twice for the Cannoneers and Nathan Eccleston doubled.<\/p>\n<p>Kyle Peterson pitched 3 2\/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two to record the win for JCC.<\/p>\n<p>Grant Clark tossed three scoreless innings, striking out three, to register the save.<\/p>\n<p>In the second game. Braiden Bley went 3-for-3, including a double, Spivey and Lopez singled twice and Eccleston doubled for JCC (17-15, 7-5) against Cayuga Community College (29-17, 12-12).<\/p>\n<p>SKIDMORE 12-8, ST. LAWRENCE 3-8<\/p>\n<p>The Saints rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to record a victory and salvage a split of a Liberty League doubleheader played in Canton.<\/p>\n<p>Emily Wendt singled in a run to the game at eight in the frame and Maeve Thompson followed with a walk-off double for St. Lawrence (15-15, 7-7).<\/p>\n<p>Madison Smith pitched 2 1\/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out one, to record the win for the Saints.<\/p>\n<p>Allison Kloft singled twice and scored three runs for the Saints, Leah VerSchneider and Marleigh Monroe each doubled and knocked in a run and Thompson also singled.<\/p>\n<p>In the first game, Natalie Mayne pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out one to post a complete-game victory for Skidmore (20-16, 7-7) in a game shortened to six innings because of a mercy rule.<\/p>\n<p>Emily Siansky went 3-for-3 and drove in a run for the Saints, Emily Crain doubled and Isabel Moreno hit a triple.<\/p>\n<p>St. Lawrence will play Skidmore in league playoff play-in game at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the University of Rochester.<\/p>\n<p>SUNY POTSDAM 3-1, SUNY FREDONIA 1-7<\/p>\n<p>The Bears won the first game but dropped the nightcap to the Blue Devils in a SUNYAC doubleheader played in Fredonia.<\/p>\n<p>Emily Birmingham spun a two-hitter in the opener, yielding one run on one walk while striking out seven to post the complete game victory for SUNY Potsdam.<\/p>\n<p>Payton St. Clair homered, doubled and drove in two runs to pace the Bears at the plate and Maddalyn Wasserman hit a double.<\/p>\n<p>In the second game, Avery Hill homered, singled and drove in two runs and Sabrina Edwards-Smith fired a complete-game, striking out four to post the win for SUNY Fredonia (17-21, 11-7).<\/p>\n<p>SUNY Potsdam (14-26, 4-14) was held to four singles in its season finale.<\/p>\n<p>The Engineers won both ends of a doubleheader with the Golden Knights by identical scores in Liberty League play in Potsdam.<\/p>\n<p>In the first game, Gaby Heim doubled and singled, Evann McDowell, Olivia Termi and Sarah Decker each singled twice and Addison Shaffer, Ryleigh Falvey and Lauren Cosselman all hit a double for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Kelsea Flanagan doubled and Emily Martin hit a pair of singles for Clarkson.<\/p>\n<p>In the nightcap, Termi and Maddy Brooks both homered and singled, driving in five and one run, respectively, for the Engineers (25-11, 10-4), while Falvey, Sydney Speanburg and Callista Adorno each totaled three singles.<\/p>\n<p>Emily Bulone stroked a pair of singles for the Golden Knights (7-28, 1-13) in their season finale.<\/p>\n<p>SUNY MORRISVILLE 5-17, SUNY CANTON 4-2<\/p>\n<p>The Mustangs swept the Kangaroos in a SUNYAC doubleheader in Canton on the final day of the season for both teams.<\/p>\n<p>Piper Kaylor scattered nine hits in a complete-game effort, striking out seven and walking one, while allowing four runs, with three of them earned, to win the opener for SUNY Morrisville.<\/p>\n<p>Gracie Battles went 3-for-3, including a double, and drove in a run for the Mustangs.<\/p>\n<p>Sydney Tanner yielded five runs, with four of them earned, on nine hits and three walks while striking out two over seven innings in taking the loss for SUNY Canton.<\/p>\n<p>Madelin Marquart went 3-for-4, including a double, for the Kangaroos and Jordyn Tarbox and Bridgette Fox both doubled, with Tarbox driving in a pair of runs.<\/p>\n<p>In the second game, Battles and Kaylor combined on a two-hitter, with Battles allowing two runs on seven hits in three innings to record the win.<\/p>\n<p>Lyme graduate Callie Lafontaine doubled, singled twice, drove in four runs and scored three runs for the Mustangs (4-31, 3-15) and Kaylor and Kaylie Kendrick each went 3-for-4, with Kaylor doubling and and Kendick driving in two runs, and Madeline Brennan went 3-for-3.<\/p>\n<p>Cassandra Forrest went 3-for-3, including a double, for the Kangaroos (2-26, 1-17) and Marquart hit a pair of
