(KTXL) — For Rhys Hoskins, it was more than just another game. It was home.

Back in Sacramento, the hometown native stepped into the batter’s box surrounded by familiar faces, lifelong memories and a crowd filled with family and friends who helped shape his journey.

“It was cool, right? This is home,” Hoskins said. “I have a lot of 12, 13, 14-year-old memories here. It’s just a cool moment for me and my family. To get a win is even better in that type of situation. Just a cool night all around.”

And it showed on the field.

Hoskins delivered in a big way, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, putting on a show in front of the people who have supported him since the beginning.

“Going to be a memory for life, for sure,” he said.

The night carried even more meaning considering the turnout. Hoskins estimated he handed out around 20 tickets, though the actual number of familiar faces felt even larger.

“A lot of support from all around, all facets of my life when I was a young kid all the way up to being a big leaguer now,” Hoskins said. “That’s what it takes. And that’s really cool to see.”

After his home run, Hoskins made sure to acknowledge the crowd, waving toward a section packed with family members behind the dugout.

“I think most of the family was kind of right behind the dugout,” he said. “Waving out there. Just a really cool moment.”

Even away from the ballpark, the trip home brought a sense of comfort and nostalgia. Hoskins shared plans to visit some of his favorite local spots, including grabbing breakfast and coffee while soaking in as much time back in Sacramento as possible.

For Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt, the moment carried a level of familiarity.

Vogt spent time playing at Sutter Health Park during his career with the River Cats in both the A’s and Giants organizations, giving him his own connection to the ballpark and the Sacramento baseball scene.

“Sacramento’s always fun,” Vogt said. “My family and I had some really good memories here. It’s really special.”

Vogt also pointed to Hoskins’ performance as a fitting result for a player returning to his roots.

“You love when guys get to play in their hometown in front of their family,” Vogt said. “For him to come through with some big hits, it makes it even more fun.”

For Hoskins, the stats mattered. But not nearly as much as the setting.

A return home. A crowd filled with familiar faces. And a night that felt bigger than baseball.

One he knows he will never forget.

“It’s going to be a memory for life, for sure.”

Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
