{"id":691735,"date":"2026-05-06T10:42:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T10:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/691735\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T10:42:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T10:42:17","slug":"charleston-southern-tops-college-of-charleston-in-baseball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/691735\/","title":{"rendered":"Charleston Southern tops College of Charleston in baseball"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">College of Charleston and Charleston Southern got together in the final midweek non-conference baseball game of the season, colliding at CSU\u2019s Nielsen Field on May 5.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Bucs came away with a rare win over their crosstown rivals, snapping a five-game losing streak to the Cougars with a 9-6 win.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CSU improved to 25-19 this season and won against the Cougs for only the second time in 11 games. College of Charleston dropped to 22-25 on the season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CSU\u2019s Kain Collins scored three runs and Alex Marot had four RBIs as the Bucs ripped off 14 hits as a team. Garrison Barile, Ethan Reader and Caden Wolfley joined Collins with two hits each.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ethan Plyler led CofC with three hits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cougars\u2019 right fielder Jake Amman, a James Island grad, led off the game with a solo homer to center to spot the Cougs to an early lead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The lead did not last long as the Bucs tied the game with a run-scoring single by Marot with two outs in the bottom of the first.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Collins led off the bottom of the third with his second double of the game. Two outs later, Marot delivered again, this time with a two-run homer to left center and a 3-1 Bucs lead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dylan Johnson led off the CofC fourth with a double and later scored on Plyler\u2019s single. The Cougs tied the score at 3 on Peyton Frehner\u2019s RBI single, but CofC left the bases loaded in the fourth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Bucs added an unearned run in the fourth, taking a 4-3 lead on Blake Edgmon\u2019s single to score Ethan Reader, who reached base on an error.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alex LaCoste\u00a0dropped a two-out bomb to left center to tie the game at 4 in the top of the fifth for the Cougars. But CSU answered with a long ball, a homer to left by Barile after two were out to regain the 5-4 lead after five innings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CSU added a run in the sixth when Tyler Wright\u2019s RBI single scored Wolfley, who had doubled with two outs. Reader\u2019s two-run single pushed CSU to a 8-4 lead after seven innings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amman and LaCoste added run-scoring singles in the eighth to trim CSU\u2019s lead to 8-6, but the Cougars again left two runners on base.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Collins reached base for the fourth time in the bottom of the eighth and came around to score on Marot\u2019s sacrifice fly to center, pushing the Bucs\u2019 lead to 9-6 heading into the ninth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both teams resume conference play on the road this weekend. College of Charleston will travel to Elon while CSU visits Longwood.
