QUINCY — The Quincy Blue Devils split Wednesday’s doubleheader against Western Big 6 Conference rival Alleman, winning the first game 4-3 and falling to the Pioneers 11-10 in the second game.<\/p>\n
With Monday’s game getting rained out, Quincy High hosted the makeup game with Alleman being the declared home team in Game One.<\/p>\n
In the first game, both teams scored three runs in the fifth inning.<\/p>\n
The Blue Devils scored the deciding run in the sixth inning when Logan George hit a one-out double and Cameron Lawson driving him in with a sac fly.<\/p>\n
QHS starting pitcher James Day earned the win after pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts, while allowing six hits, no walks and three earned runs. Day went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI at the plate.<\/p>\n
Alleman starting pitcher Adam VanMeighem was the losing pitcher after pitching six innings with three strikeouts, while allowing nine hits, four walks and four earned runs.<\/p>\n
Lawson went 3-for-3 with a run, RBI and two stolen bases out of the leadoff spot, while catcher Mason Ritter went 2-for-3 with a double, walk and two RBIs.<\/p>\n
The second game was also decided by one run, but it looked like it might be a QHS rout early on after the Blue Devils scored seven runs in the first inning.<\/p>\n
Alleman answered by scoring six runs in the top of the second inning and took a 8-7 lead in the fourth inning. The Blue Devils took a brief 10-9 lead in the fifth, but were unable to hold it.<\/p>\n
Alleman’s Gavin Wilburn hit the go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning.<\/p>\n
Lawson had a no decision after pitching four innings with four strikeouts, while allowing nine hits, one walk and five earned runs. He went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases at the plate.<\/p>\n
Blue Devils reliever Chase Saalborn was tagged with the loss after pitching 2.2 innings with one strikeout, while allowing four hits, three walks and three earned runs. Shane Pillars pitched a third of an inning in relief.<\/p>\n
Alleman also used three pitchers, with reliever Kelly Honert getting the win after pitching two scoreless innings in relief.<\/p>\n
QHS first baseman Noah Wells went 2-for-3 with a walk, double, run, three RBIs and two stolen bases, while Day went 2-for-4 with a walk, RBI, stolen base and two runs.<\/p>\n
George went 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs, while Jacob Salisbury went 2-for-3 with a double, walk and an RBI.<\/p>\n
