The Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> have been one of baseball\u2019s feel-good stories over the last few weeks. After a dreadful 9-19 start that cost manager Rob Thomson his job, interim manager Don Mattingly steadied the ship quickly.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Phillies have now won eight of their first nine games under Mattingly after Thomson’s firing. They lost there last two games, heading into the weekend with a 17-22 record and back within reach on the National League East standings. One of the reasons for Philadelphia\u2019s resurgence has been first baseman<\/a>Bryce Harper<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The eight-time All-Star entered Saturday\u2019s home game against the Colorado Rockies<\/a> hitting .282 with nine home runs, 23 RBIs and a .929 OPS, and was again expected to play a crucial role in the Phillies\u2019 second game against the Rockies. But Saturday night took an uncomfortable turn early.<\/p>\n

Per The Athletic\u2019s Charlotte Varnes, Harper exited in the first inning with a migraine, forcing the Phillies to reshuffle their lineup before the game had barely begun, with F\u00e9lix Reyes immediately stepping in to replace him.<\/p>\n

The development adds to a recent troubling pattern for the club as this is the third migraine-related absence for a Phillies player in 2026.<\/p>\n

Andrew Painter suffered a migraine before a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> in April. And just last Saturday against the Miami Marlins<\/a>, outfielder Justin Crawford was a late scratch for the same reason, forcing Mattingly to deploy an entirely makeshift outfield of Garrett Stubbs in left, Adolis Garc\u00eda<\/a> in center and Felix Reyes in right.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Three migraines across the roster in less than a month is an unusual cluster, and it has not gone unnoticed among fans and analysts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is going on with wave of migraines sweeping through the Phillies?\u201d John Stolnis<\/a>, host of Phillies podcast \u201cHittin\u2019 Season\u201d wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy are these players getting migraines? Seems a lot,\u201d one fan<\/a> added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been more migraine related issues for the Phillies this season than I can remember,\u201d Metro Philly\u2019s Matt Watson<\/a> pointed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know this can\u2019t be right, but I swear I don\u2019t remember anyone ever missing a game for the Phillies with a migraine before the season,\u201d popular Phillies podcaster Franzke & LA<\/a> wrote.<\/p>\n

These episodes, while disruptive, typically resolve within 24 hours, but it remains to be seen if Harper\u2019s migraine will carry into the week. The Phillies have an off-day Monday before opening a three-game series on the road against the Boston Red Sox<\/a> on Tuesday, and the severity of the migraine could determine his availability.<\/p>\n
