(KCTV) &#8211; Mother\u2019s Day holds special meaning for Kansas City Royals players, many of whom credit their mothers as the backbone of their baseball journeys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Bobby Witt Jr., son of former major leaguer Bobby Witt, said his mother was the foundation of his family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cYeah, my dad was there- he played in the big leagues, but my mom\u2019s the backbone of the family. She\u2019s the reason- I feel like- I\u2019m here,\u201d Witt said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">St. Joe native Noah Cameron said his mother remains his biggest supporter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cShe\u2019s always my best friend, she\u2019s always been there- the number-1 fan. Her and my dad fight \u2018who\u2019s the number-1 fan?\u2019\u201d Cameron said while laughing.<\/p>\n<p>Mothers provided rides, coaching and support<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Several players recalled their mothers driving them to practices and games while their fathers traveled for baseball careers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Royals announcer Ryan Lefebvre, whose father played, coached and managed in the major leagues, said his mother handled the logistics of his youth baseball career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cShe was organizing my rides to games and my practices,\u201d Lefebvre said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Michael Massey said his mother was hands-on in his development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cGrowing up, she was the one taking me to practices and driving me around- half the time throwing to me in the backyard,\u201d Massey said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lane Thomas said his mother\u2019s commitment to youth baseball made his career possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cYou know, when it was just a kids game and all the practices and games and stuff growing up and we appreciate it and it wouldn\u2019t have been possible without them doing that,\u201d the outfielder said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Former Royals closer Jeff Montgomery said his mother sometimes served as his \u201ccatcher and long-toss partner.\u201d He said sending her a game ball after a Mother\u2019s Day \u201csave\u201d meant a lot to her.<\/p>\n<p>First-time mothers celebrated<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Several Royals players with new babies at home said this Mother\u2019s Day was special for their wives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Daniel Lynch said his wife deserves recognition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s awesome to celebrate her- she\u2019s an amazing mother and she deserves all of it,\u201d Lynch said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cole Ragans said his wife is celebrating her first Mother\u2019s Day with a daughter on the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cGot a little girl on the way, so the first Mother\u2019s day for my wife. We\u2019re excited,\u201d Ragans said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Vinnie Pasquantino said Mother\u2019s Day conversations are less stressful than baseball talks with his father. He said he appreciates wearing the special pink Mother\u2019s Day gear to honor his parents\u2019 sacrifices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">John Schreiber said mothers can be both the biggest fan and biggest critic, but Jac Caglianone said his mother is \u201cnever critical and goes with the flow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Manager Matt Quatraro lost his mother two years ago. He said he remembers how she celebrated when he reached the major leagues as a coach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWhen I got my first big league coaching job- having lost my dad the year before- how excited she was for that,\u201d Quatraro said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Every single Royals player or coach seems to agree that Mother\u2019s Day is one of the season\u2019s biggest days.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCTV.
