{"id":695873,"date":"2026-05-11T06:09:50","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T06:09:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/695873\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T06:09:50","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T06:09:50","slug":"rangers-jacob-degrom-reaches-1900-ks-as-2nd-fastest-by-games-and-innings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/695873\/","title":{"rendered":"Rangers&#8217; Jacob deGrom reaches 1,900 Ks as 2nd-fastest by games and innings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) \u2014 Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom earned his 1,900th career strikeout in the first inning in a <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/cubs-rangers-score-08bb906e535e4e15f1de100739c0dd15\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">3-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs<\/a> on Sunday, becoming the second-fastest pitcher to that milestone by games and innings.<\/p>\n<p>Seiya Suzuki struck out swinging on a 91.3 mph slider to end the first inning after Mois\u00e9s Ballesteros swung and missed on a 98.1 mph fastball, and deGrom went on to tie his season high for strikeouts with 10.<\/p>\n<p>The 1,900th strikeout came in deGrom\u2019s 256th appearance, all as a starter. Hall of Famer Randy Johnson reached that mark in his 252nd game in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson is second on the career strikeout list at 4,875. The left-hander was 33 when he reached 1,900, while deGrom turns 38 next month and has dealt with numerous injuries the past five years.<\/p>\n<p>After the first inning, deGrom was at 1,578 1\/3 for his career.
