The lefty, who has been placed in the bullpen to work as a bulk reliever, pitched five innings without allowing an earned run in the team\u2019s 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All three runs that scored with Peterson on the mound followed Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez\u2019s second throwing error of the day, in the sixth inning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s just getting back to who I am as a pitcher, getting the sinker down, and using the four-seamer,\u201d said Peterson, who owns a 5.49 ERA. \u201cI feel like I have had better feel the last couple of outings with the changeup and the sliders continue to be good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peterson surrendered two earned runs over four innings in relief on Monday in Colorado<\/a>, both scoring after Carson Benge tripped chasing a fly ball in the outfield.<\/p>\n

Peterson has been less successful as a starter.<\/p>\n

In each of his last four appearances as a starter Peterson has surrendered at least four earned runs.<\/p>\n

That included a seven-run meltdown over 3 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings against the Nationals in his last start, on April 29.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought he was really good today,\u201d manager Carlos Mendoza said. \u201cHe got ground balls, made pitches, we didn\u2019t make a couple of plays and it ended up costing us runs. But overall, I thought he threw the ball very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mendoza utilized Huascar Brazob\u00e1n as the opener, sticking with him into the second inning and got burned when the right-hander walked two batters to begin the frame.<\/p>\n

Tobias Myers<\/a> got two outs before Ryan Waldschmidt delivered a two-run double for the game\u2019s first scoring.<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, [Brazob\u00e1n] had a hard time throwing strikes today,\u201d Mendoza said.<\/p>\n

Mendoza said he didn\u2019t consider using Myers to start the second inning because of the right-hander\u2019s recent workload.<\/p>\n
