The Boston Red Sox<\/a> received encouraging injury news Tuesday night despite another frustrating result at Fenway Park, as interim manager Chad Tracy offered a positive update on Willson Contreras<\/a> following Boston\u2019s loss to the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox dropped the series opener 2-1 and fell to 17-24, remaining in last place in the American League East. With the club continuing to search for consistency, the veteran first baseman\u2019s status became an important storyline after he was unavailable during the game.<\/p>\n

Contreras, who joined the Red Sox<\/a> during the offseason after a trade from the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>, has been dealing with a bruised right hand suffered when he was hit by a pitch against the Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> earlier this week. Although he took batting practice before Tuesday\u2019s matchup, the club kept him out as a precaution.<\/p>\n

The update gave Boston some optimism as the lineup continues searching for more consistent production. Contreras has been one of the club\u2019s most reliable bats this season, providing power and run production in the middle of the order.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox struggled to generate offense Tuesday night despite creating several late-scoring opportunities.
