Escarra. So long as he recovers well from the session, the reliever is expected to be activated as soon as he’s eligible on Tuesday.

Cruz went on the IL on May 22, though the move was retroactive to May 19. He wasn’t exactly sure of the Yankees’ plans for him, but he said, “I feel ready.”

“Everything felt good, effortless,” he added. “I wasn’t even trying to throw hard, and it feels amazing.”

Fernando Cruz strikes out Pablo Reyes. #Yankees pic.twitter.com/biAQHKV1Qd

— Gary Phillips (@GaryHPhillips) May 31, 2025

Cruz left the mound happy with his command and velocity. At the time of his IL designation, no reliever had more strikeouts than his 35.

Cruz also has a 2.66 ERA over 23.2 innings.

Stroman, meanwhile, threw 30-35 pitches over two innings, per Boone. The veteran, recovering from knee inflammation, faced hitters for the first time since May 9. That live batting practice led to a setback for the righty, as Boone said Stroman felt “minor” but “lingering” discomfort in his knee afterward.

On Saturday, Boone said Stroman “looked sharp,” but he wasn’t sure of the pitcher’s next steps.
