The Chicago White Sox<\/a> will face off against the Chicago Cubs<\/a> in the Crosstown Classic series this weekend for a battle of supremacy in the Windy City. Ahead of the matchup between pennant hopefuls, Chicago<\/a> Mayor Brandon Johnson revealed some interesting plans for when he meets wth Pope Leo XIV in Rome later this month.<\/p>\n

Pope Leo is from Chicago and is noted as being a die-hard White Sox fan, but Mayor Johnson has every intention of giving him some Cubs apparel.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll probably bring him a Cubs hat,\u201d Johnson, a Cubs fan, told Block Club on Thursday<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know if he\u2019ll wear it, but I\u2019ll bless it nonetheless.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf his Sox keep playing this well, though, I\u2019m going to ask him to bless our guys on the North Side,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cAnd then, of course, we\u2019re going to pray for potentially a Cubs-White Sox World Series.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leaning in<\/p>\n

The White Sox organization is well aware that the Pope is a fan of the team and will be giving away Pope-themed hats to fans at the ballpark on August 11.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fans have spoken<\/a>, and unlike some of our more limited-quantity promotions, the White Sox Pope hat is one we believe all fans should have the opportunity to take home,\u201d said Brooks Boyer, White Sox chief revenue and marketing officer, in a statement. \u201cWe viewed the promotion as a creative way to celebrate one of the franchise\u2019s most popular fans, and by the overwhelming response we received, White Sox fans certainly agreed.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of Thursday evening, the White Sox have far exceeded their season expectations. It\u2019s almost as if they have the mandate of heaven.<\/p>\n
