{"id":70007,"date":"2025-06-01T00:57:14","date_gmt":"2025-06-01T00:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/70007\/"},"modified":"2025-06-01T00:57:14","modified_gmt":"2025-06-01T00:57:14","slug":"yankees-marcus-stroman-takes-big-step-in-his-knee-injury-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/70007\/","title":{"rendered":"Yankees&#8217; Marcus Stroman takes big step in his knee injury recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LOS ANGELES \u2014 Marcus Stroman <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/11\/sports\/yankees-marcus-stroman-cant-get-over-final-hump-with-lingering-injury\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">finally broke out of his holding pattern<\/a> and faced hitters Saturday at Dodger Stadium for the first time in three weeks.<\/p>\n<p>What comes next is much less clear.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees\u2019 veteran right-hander, who has been on the injured list since April 12 with left knee inflammation, had last thrown live batting practice May 9 in Tampa. <\/p>\n<p>But he experienced discomfort in that session, so he had only been throwing bullpen sessions every few days since then until Saturday, when he threw around 30 pitches and the equivalent of two innings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStro looked sharp,\u201d manager Aaron Boone said. \u201cLiked what I saw from him. \u2026 I thought his stuff looked good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How Stroman\u2019s knee responds to the increase in activity will determine how he proceeds, with Boone saying he did not yet know what was next. <\/p>\n<p>But even once he proves he is ready and goes on a rehab assignment, his role with the Yankees remains up in the air.<\/p>\n<p>Boone has previously said the Yankees will build up Stroman \u2014 who said in spring training he would not pitch out of the bullpen \u2014 as a starter, though they have five starters pitching well in Max Fried, Carlos Rod\u00f3n, Clarke Schmidt, Will Warren and Ryan Yarbrough.<\/p>\n<p>Yarbrough began the season in the bullpen but has been sharp in four starts since moving into the rotation when Carlos Carrasco was designated for assignment.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.53753754;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36103459\" width=\"907\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Marcus-Stroman.jpg\" alt=\"Marcus Stroman has been on the injured list since April 12 with a left knee injury.\" class=\"wp-image-36103459\"  \/>Marcus Stroman has been on the injured list since April 12 with a left knee injury. Bill Kostroun \/ New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Stroman last pitched in a game April 11, when he gave up five runs in \u00b2\/\u2083 of an inning against the Giants, with his knee issues being revealed later that night. <\/p>\n<p>He had advanced to facing hitters May 9 in Tampa, when the knee flared up again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seemed like it was minor, but it was lingering,\u201d Boone said. \u201cThen through a couple different bullpens he had, it was still there and lingering.
