As injuries continue to mount for the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, the team is adding a veteran outfielder to its roster.<\/p>\n

Jon Heyman of the New York Post first reported Saturday that the Orioles are signing Tommy Pham<\/a> to a minor league contract. The deal contains an opt-out clause for Pham in early June if the O’s choose not to add him to their active roster.<\/p>\n

Prior to the start of this season, Pham agreed to a minor league deal with the New York Mets<\/a> and was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse. After playing four minor league games in Syracuse, the Mets selected the 36-year-old’s contract on April 12.<\/p>\n

His second stint with the Mets did not pan out, going 0-for-13 at the plate. The veteran was ultimately designated for assignment on April 26 and elected free agency after clearing waivers.<\/p>\n

Pham will now join his 11th different team over his 13-year career and is likely heading to Triple-A Norfolk, hoping to make a strong impression for the Orioles.<\/p>\n

Baltimore’s disappointing start to its season has been largely due to the mounting injuries on its roster. Ryan Mountcastle<\/a> is on the 60-day injured list with a fractured left foot, Jackson Holliday<\/a> has yet to make his season debut after undergoing hamate bone surgery on his right hand, Dylan Beavers<\/a> has a right oblique strain and Heston Kjerstad<\/a> is nursing a hamstring strain. The O’s also most recently announced that Jordan Westburg<\/a> would undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery due to a partially torn UCL.<\/p>\n

The Orioles currently sit in third place in the American League East at 20-25 and will continue their Beltway Series against the Washington Nationals<\/a> this afternoon.<\/p>\n
