Houston Astros<\/a> All-Star Jose Altuve<\/a> is headed to the injured list as the latest sidelined Astros star in an injury-plagued season.<\/p>\n

The Astros announced Sunday afternoon<\/a> that Altuve will join the injured list with a Grade 2 left oblique strain, confirming earlier comments from general manager Dana Brown<\/a> that Altuve had injured an oblique muscle.<\/p>\n

Altuve sustained the injury on Saturday, then had imaging done Sunday that revealed the nature of the injury. The Astros did not announce a projected timeline for Altuve\u2019s return.<\/p>\n

Altuve suffered the injury in the eighth inning Saturday as Houston held a 4-1 lead. He hit into a double play and immediately came up holding his left side.<\/p>\n

He walked straight to the Astros\u2019 clubhouse without attempting to run to first base and didn\u2019t return to the game.<\/p>\n

The injury is Altuve\u2019s second to the same oblique since 2023. He spent 20 days on the injured list with a left oblique injury during the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

Altuve is a nine-time All-Star, seven-time Silver Slugger and a former AL MVP. Through 42 games before his injury, Altuve was slashing .245\/.326\/.380 with 4 home runs, 12 RBI and 1 stolen base.<\/p>\n

Altuve joins a crowded Astros injured list that already includes shortstop Jeremy Pe\u00f1a<\/a>, outfielder Jake Meyers<\/a>, starting pitcher Hunter Brown<\/a>, closer Josh Hader<\/a> and third baseman Carlos Correa<\/a>, whose season is done due to a torn tendon in his left ankle.<\/p>\n

The injuries have contributed to a rough early season in Houston.
