KANSAS CITY, Mo. \u2014 The Kansas City Royals<\/a> were able to avoid an I-70 series sweep on Sunday, thanks to the outstanding play of Stephen Kolek<\/a> (2-0) in a 2-0 victory.<\/p>\n

Kolek went 6.1 innings, allowing no earned runs with four hits, three strikeouts and one walk to go along with the winning decision.<\/p>\n

Salvador Perez<\/a> drove in the only runs of the game, the first being on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning that scored Maikel Garcia<\/a>, and the second being a solo home run to left field in the fourth.<\/p>\n

The win ends a six-game losing streak for the Royals, who now sit at 20-27.<\/p>\n

Despite their recent struggles on their road trip, they\u2019re only 2.5 games out the final Wild Card spot in what has been a very subpar American League so far this season, with currently only five teams above .500.<\/p>\n

The Royals will come back home for a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox<\/a> starting on Monday at 6:40 p.m.<\/p>\n

Seth Lugo<\/a> (1-3) will take the mound against Sonny Gray<\/a> (4-1).<\/p>\n
