Tony Vitello shares Jung Hoo Lee, Willy Adames injury updates after Giants’ loss<\/a> originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area<\/a><\/p>\n

The Giants\u2019 12-2 loss<\/a> to the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> on Monday at Chase Field was ugly in more ways than one.<\/p>\n

Not only did their NL West opponents blow them out in the series opener, but the Giants also lost two starting position players to injuries during the game.<\/p>\n

First, Jung Hoo Lee<\/a> was replaced in right field by Will Brennan<\/a> before the bottom of the fourth inning after he left with what the Giants later announced as back spasms (h\/t the San Francisco Chronicle\u2019s Shayna Rubin<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Then, shortstop Willy Adames<\/a> was pinch-hit for in the top of the sixth after a ground ball struck him in the finger during the previous inning on an error which allowed Arizona\u2019s 12th run to score.<\/p>\n

After the game, Giants manager Tony Vitello shared what the next couple of days could look like for both players.<\/p>\n

\u201cKind of tough to tell [the severity of Lee\u2019s injury],\u201d Vitello told reporters after the game. \u201cDefinitely cautionary in the middle of the game, but then take a look, and then it\u2019s a completely different set of circumstances. But similar to [Heliot] Ramos, just to call in an example, get through the night, and then follow up tomorrow and take a closer look, and and see what\u2019s going on there \u2026 But probably [Lee will be] down for tomorrow, and a day where can fully assess what\u2019s going on, see if it\u2019s worse or better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lee was 1-for-2 with a single before he came out of the game. Adames, meanwhile, gave San Francisco its first run in the second inning with a solo home run to left field \u2014 his fourth of the 2026 MLB season.<\/p>\n

Unlike Lee, Vitello wasn\u2019t sure if Adames will miss Tuesday\u2019s game and shared the Giants will \u201csee where it\u2019s at\u201d as far as his unlucky injury goes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ball was real well struck, [Adames] doesn\u2019t see it because it\u2019s in front of the runner, jumped up on him, and just nicked his thumb,\u201d Vitello told reporters. \u201cBut when I say nick, it\u2019s a baseball, and it was hit whatever the velocity was you guys got. So a little bit of a contusion there, and I think probably as good of news as you want from that. Ideally it doesn\u2019t happen, but again, I think as good of news from that, but that was why he came out of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Giants already are short one outfielder after placing Heliot Ramos on the 10-day injured list<\/a> with a right quadriceps strain. Starting pitcher Logan Webb<\/a> also is on the IL with a knee injury<\/a>, but he\u2019s scheduled to make a rehab appearance later this week and should be back in the rotation soon.<\/p>\n

San Francisco went to Arizona seeking its third consecutive victory after winning the weekend\u2019s series<\/a> against the Athletics<\/a>. But instead, they suffered a brutal loss \u2014 and two more injuries as a team that certainly can\u2019t afford any setbacks.<\/p>\n
