SEATTLE \u2014 In Monday’s game between the Seattle Mariners<\/a> and the Chicago White Sox<\/a>\u00a0at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, the Mariners’ newest addition, and the organization’s top prospect, Colt Emerson, (No. 6 MLB Pipeline top 100<\/a>) hit a major career milestone.<\/p>\n

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Emerson registered his first career major-league hit: a three-run home run to right field that pushed the final score to the\u00a0eventual final of 6-1<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Emerson’s first career homer\/base-hit came in his first game playing in front of friends and family in the big leagues. He was called up and made his debut on short notice Sunday before anyone close to him could get there.<\/p>\n

After Emerson ran the bases, he walked to the dugout for the first of what’s likely to be many ‘trident raises’ in his career. When he got to the steps of the dugout, center fielder Julio Rodriguez, shortstop J.P. Crawford and left fielder Randy Arozarena were there with grins to welcome him and celebrate his accomplishment.<\/p>\n

Emerson took a curtain call after his three-run shot, and after the game, the celebrations continued. He was doused with the dugout tub of Gatorade postgame. In the clubhouse, Emerson continued to be doused.<\/p>\n

Starting pitcher Bryan Woo, fresh off a 90-pitch, eight-strikeout, six-inning quality start, sprinted in the hallways to find more beverages for the celebration after the team ran low.<\/p>\n

The series of events highlighted a fact that bodes well for Emerson’s immediate future with the team: just two games into his major league tenure, the former 2023 first-round pick has been completely adopted by the team and the clubhouse.<\/p>\n

“Oh my gosh, It means the world,” Emerson said in a postgame interview Monday. “It really does mean the world. Getting drafted, you look who’s in the big leagues, you idolize those guys. You want to be a part of that. And I’m finally a part of that and seeing their faces and seeing Julio, Randy, J.P. out on the front step (of the dugout) waiting for me, it means a lot. It really does.”<\/p>\n

Emerson entered his first major league game Sunday with a series of expectations and excitement around his arrival. He’s been regarded as the team’s top prospect for years by most publications and signed an eight-year, $95 million contract earlier this year that will keep him in the organization past 2030.<\/p>\n

With those levels of expectations and circumstances, it can often be easy for a player in Emerson’s shoes to be alienated, either by not knowing how to navigate their new environment or by established veterans growing annoyed at the attention of the unproven rookie.<\/p>\n

Those aren’t the feelings in the Mariners clubhouse.<\/p>\n

Emerson has grown to know the team more over the last two years. He was a non-roster invite to spring training in 2025 and 2026. Several members of the team, such as Crawford, and 2025 call-up Cole Young, have made the effort to take the 20-year-old under their wing.<\/p>\n

“You play better when there’s guys like that supporting you,” Emerson said. “You play better when there’s a team supporting you as a young guy. I’m sure (Young) could say the same thing. It’s not just me, it’s not just one person. … It’s awesome. Anytime I have a question, I bounce it off of (Young). Everybody’s really open on this team.<\/p>\n

Despite Emerson’s top-10 prospect standing, he’s almost certainly going to go through the same growing pains and temporary setbacks as nearly every rookie who makes their first voyage into the majors.<\/p>\n

Regardless of if, and when, those struggles come, Emerson will have his Seattle teammates in his corner.<\/p>\n
