The Arizona Diamondbacks built what appeared to be a competitive team in 2025, with the additions of Josh Naylor and Corbin Burnes filling holes in their lineup.<\/p>\n

Despite being expected to push for a National League Wild Card berth again in 2025, the team hasn’t quite panned out that way.<\/p>\n

The D’backs sit at 27-30, eight games back on the Dodgers for first place in the West and five games back from the Cardinals and Giants for the last wild card spot.<\/p>\n

One area that hasn’t helped is a leaky bullpen, which has created a world where the Diamondbacks could sell at the deadline.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t appear likely, but if the Diamondbacks keep slipping out of the standings, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller wrote that he wouldn’t be shocked to see the Diamondbacks prioritize long-term prospect value over short-term gain.<\/p>\n

One name he mentioned was All-Star pitcher Zac Gallen, who would easily be the most coveted name on the market if the D’backs make him available. Gallen, who finished third in the Cy Young vote in 2023, signed a one-year, $13.5 million deal with the Diamondbacks prior to 2025.<\/p>\n

The Athletic’s Tim Britton predicted<\/a> Gallen would land a seven year, $187 million contract after this season. If the Diamondbacks are unsure about their chances of landing him and get a solid offer, it’s not unreasonable to see them dealing him if they feel this season became a wash.<\/p>\n

Another scenario where Gallen could be sent to a contender is for big-league relief talent. The Diamondbacks on Friday lost to the Nationals 9-7, their 10th game this season where they score six or more runs; no team has more than five.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Diamondbacks’ loss column should be one to monitor to see if names like Gallen, Naylor, Merrill Kelly or Eugenio Suarez become available.<\/p>\n
