{"id":703924,"date":"2026-05-20T11:21:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T11:21:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/703924\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T11:21:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T11:21:23","slug":"yankees-aaron-boone-ejected-after-arguing-controversial-catch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/703924\/","title":{"rendered":"Yankees&#8217; Aaron Boone ejected after arguing controversial catch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aaron Boone went savage.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling like second base umpire Brennan Miller had just blown his second call of the game and with no available measure to challenge the play, Boone blew his top and was ejected Tuesday after the last out of the seventh inning in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/19\/sports\/yankees-ben-rice-hold-on-for-nail-biting-win-over-blue-jays\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Yankees\u2019 heart-stopping 5-4 win<\/a> against the Blue Jays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProbably just me being over-amped,\u201d Boone said afterward in an uncharacteristically self-blaming tone. \u201cI thought two missed calls that were important. \u2026 That being said, I probably overreacted to it a little bit, but I just kind of snapped on it a little bit because I felt like there [were] two calls and then when you can\u2019t challenge because you feel like one\u2019s already been missed?\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Aaron Boone was ejected for arguing this catch made by Daulton Varsho, as the Yankees lost their challenge earlier on a Volpe caught stealing<\/p>\n<p>The Umpire that ejected Boone was Brennan Miller, the same umpire from the infamous &#8220;Savages in the Box&#8221; rant <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xT4vmRFv1l\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/xT4vmRFv1l<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Talkin&#8217; Yanks (@TalkinYanks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TalkinYanks\/status\/2056916547231195432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May 20, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The trouble started in the fourth inning.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe it started July 18, 2019. That\u2019s when Boone <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/07\/20\/aaron-boone-umpire-showed-more-class-than-i-did-during-rant\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">had his notorious \u201cSavages in the box!\u201d tirade<\/a> that led to an ejection as he disputed Miller\u2019s strike zone.<\/p>\n<p>With that history in mind, fast forward seven years and Boone was unhappy that Miller punched out Anthony Volpe on a stolen base attempt to end the fourth. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>So, when Miller ruled that center fielder Dalton Varsho made a diving catch to take a hit away from Jazz Chisholm Jr. with a runner on first base, Boone sprinted out of the dugout to behind second base.<\/p>\n<p>Players from both teams lingered on the field as if to suggest that no one was emphatically sure whether it was a catch. The Yankees\u2019 own replay mechanisms suggested that Varsho trapped the ball, Boone confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t control myself very well,\u201d Boone said.<\/p>\n<p>It was Boone\u2019s second ejection of the season and 48th of his managerial career. Boone handed off the lineup card to bench coach Brad Ausmus, who teamed with pitching coach Matt Blake to navigate a tricky final two innings from a short-handed bullpen.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Aaron Boone went savage.
