The performance came on the heels of Baughman teaming up with Nick DeSimone to toss a no-hitter Monday in an 11-1, 5-inning win to open the playoffs.

The win, P-O’s second mercy rule victory against Richland this season (Mounties won 14-2 in 6 at home April 26), put the fourth-seeded Mounties in next Thursday’s District 6 Class 3A title game against Tyrone. That game will be played at Vet’s Field in Altoona at 6 p.m.

The sixth-seeded Golden Eagles upset second-seeded Bald Eagle Area, 12-4, on Friday. Tyrone and P-O met during the regular season, with the Mounties coming away with a 7-2 win at home on April 22.

As for Thursday’s win, the Mounties grabbed the lead right out of the chute, scoring two runs in the top of the first to grab the early lead.

Connor Guenot led off the game with a single before Baughman walked. Richland starter Ryan Ozog then struck out Fischer White, but teammate Parker Lamb followed with a double to left to plate both Guenot and courtesy runner Jake Lucas to make it 2-0.

Richland tried to counter in the bottom of the first, getting a leadoff double from Dom Shank. However, Baughman responded by retiring of 12 of the next 13 batters he faced, with the lone blemish being a one-out walk in the third.

Meanwhile, P-O doubled its lead with two more runs in the third before scoring three times in the fourth to go up 7-0.

Lamb doubled for a second time to lead off the third, then Zach Yoder walked before Damarcus Law ripped a two-run double for a 4-0 lead.

In the fourth, Guenot drew a leadoff walk and Baughman singled before White reached on a bunt single. An error on the play allowed both Guenot and Lucas to score. White later scored on a Yoder groundout to put the Mounties up 7-0.

The Mounties continued to add to that lead in the fifth, pushing four more runs across to take a commanding 11-0 lead.

DeSimone reached on an error to open the inning, that pinch-hitter Connor Matier smacked a single to left. A double by Warren Rafferty chased home DeSimone, while a Guenot single plated courtesy runner Mason Klingler.

Baughman and White each added RBI groundout that scored Rafferty and Guenot to give P-O that commanding 11-0 lead.

Richland’s Braden Yoder drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth, but Baughman responded with back-to-back outs on a fielder’s choice and popup. The Rams spoiled Baughman’s shutout bid at that point as Jake Regan hit a RBI double to left to score Dylan Wyandt, who reached on that fielder’s choice.

Baughman then hit Dom Shank to extend the inning but promptly struck out Maddox Vojtko to end the game.

Lamb led the P-O offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Guenot was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and three runs scored. Law was the only other Mountie with two RBIs.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 11,

RICHLAND 1, 5 innings

Score by Innings

P-O 202 34 — 11

Richland 000 01 — 1

Philipsburg-Osceola—11

Connor Guenot 2b 3321, Archer Baughman p 2011, Fischer White 1b 4111, Parker Lamb ss 4132, Zach Yoder 3101, Damarcus Law lf 2012, Nick DeSimone rf 3100, Jack Cartwright dh 2000, Connor Matier c 1010, Warren Rafferty 3b 3111.
