On Friday, MLB Pipeline published its latest mock draft<\/a>. They have the SF Giants taking Jacob Lombard out of Gulliver Prep High School with the No. 4 pick.<\/p>\n

The draft is still six weeks away, and mock drafts usually have more substance the closer they get to the draft. <\/p>\n

This year\u2019s first round might be one of the most important for the Giants in years. They lucked into the No. 4 pick<\/a>, as the lottery system fell in their favor.<\/p>\n

They also added the No. 29 pick<\/a> in the trade that sent Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians. They not only get the pick, but the $3.2 million slot value that comes with the pick. <\/p>\n

The SF Giants have been widely connected to two players in this year\u2019s draft<\/p>\n

That gives them a total bonus pool of $17.3 million. They can exceed that amount by five percent with only paying a tax on the overate, so the maximum bonus pool is approximately $18.2 million. The Giants have flirted with that five-percent threshold for years.<\/p>\n

They need to hit on their No. 4 pick. After years of missing on first rounders, they have a chance to bolster a farm system, that is already on an upward trajectory, in a meaningful way. <\/p>\n

Jonathan Mayo of MLB Pipeline sees shortstop Jacob Lombard going to the Giants. He adds that Lombard could go even higher than that:<\/p>\n

“If [Jacob] Lombard, son of former big leaguer George and brother of Yankees prospect George Jr., doesn\u2019t land in the top spot as a bit of a money-saver, this is the place he most likely he comes off the board.”<\/p>\n

The Giants have also been connected to UC Santa Barbara starting pitcher Jackson Flora, who goes to the Minnesota Twins with the No. 3 pick in this mock draft. Flora has a 1.05 ERA with 124 strikeouts and 30 walks in 94.1 college innings this spring. <\/p>\n

Interestingly, this also has Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey sliding to the Pittsburgh Pirates, with the No. 5 pick. Lackey has a 1.292 OPS with 17 home runs and 72 RBI in 254 plate appearances in 2026. The Giants\u2019 front office likes Lackey quite a bit, and have scouted him extensively. <\/p>\n
