In a week where the Brewers allowed one or fewer runs in four of their six games, there are many players who deserve recognition. Once again, we have to start with Jacob Misiorowski. Compared to his recent performance, this was a rough week for him. After all, he allowed a run to the Cardinals on Monday, and then his extra-base prevention streak came to an end when he allowed a double yesterday. However, that was the extent of his troubles. Of the 49 batters he faced over two starts, just seven reached base\u2014five hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch. He continued to pile on the strikeouts, adding another 20 over those two starts. He put together a historic month of May, and the only reason he wouldn\u2019t be pitcher of the month is because Cristopher S\u00e1nchez edged him out with an even more historic month.<\/p>\n
Of course, that wasn\u2019t it for impressive performances. Kyle Harrison<\/a> pitched six more scoreless innings in his start on Tuesday. Trevor Megill<\/a> has found his velocity again, as he finished four games\u2014recording three saves\u2014and allowed just two hits in four innings while striking out five. Aaron Ashby<\/a> vultured earned his ninth win on Wednesday as part of three scoreless appearances. Overall, it was a very strong week for the pitching staff.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Top Hitting Performance of the Week<\/p>\n If you bet on Jake Bauers<\/a> leading the Brewers in home runs at the end of May, you have some amazing foresight. Bauers took the home run lead on the team with two this week, giving him nine for the season. The more important of the two came on Sunday. His two-run home run was all the run support that the Brewers could provide Misiorowski, but it was also all he needed. Overall, he batted .263\/.364\/.579 with 4 RBI and those two home runs.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Andrew Vaughn<\/a> is making sure he\u2019s not forgotten. Even though he only started four games last week (he pinch-hit in the other two), he went 8-for-18 with three doubles. It\u2019s getting harder to deny having both of these batters in the lineup at the same time.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Injury Notes & Roster Moves<\/p>\n Akil Baddoo<\/a> was activated from the 60-day IL following Peter Strzelecki<\/a>\u2019s DFA, but he was immediately optioned down to Triple-A Nashville.<\/p>\n The Brewers\u2019 rotation took another hit when Logan Henderson<\/a> developed some back tightness in his last start. After it worsened in the following days, he was placed on the 15-day IL on Tuesday (retroactive to May 23). It\u2019s not expected to be a long stay on the IL, and he\u2019s expected back in mid-June. Coleman Crow was recalled to fill his roster spot.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the bullpen got stronger as Rob Zastryzny<\/a> made his return from the IL. He was activated from the 60-day IL on Sunday, with Carlos Rodriguez optioned back down to Nashville after he pitched 3 1\/3 innings on Saturday. To clear a 40-man roster spot, Angel Zerpa<\/a> was transferred to the 60-day IL.<\/p>\n Here are the injury updates for the week:<\/p>\n After another unsuccessful rehab appearance in Nashville, Quinn Priester is shifting to the Brewers\u2019 facility in Phoenix<\/a> as part of a change in their strategy. This will help prevent unnecessary stress on the Nashville pitching staff. Also, it will allow the Brewers to pull Priester in the middle of innings and send him back out the next inning. Surgery is still a possibility, but the plan is to continue pushing him for another month.<\/p>\n
