A third straight sellout crowd packed PK Park, the Ducks and Beavers met with a Super Regional berth on the line, and Oregon delivered behind strong pitching, patient at-bats, and a decisive seventh inning.

With the win, No. 11 Oregon advances to the Super Regionals for the third time in the last four years and the fourth time in program history. The Ducks will face No. 6 Texas in the Austin Super Regional next weekend, with the winner of that best-of-three series advancing to the College World Series.

Oregon State struck first in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead after a leadoff single, a walk, and a two-out base hit against Oregon starter Miles Gosztola. But the Ducks answered in the third. Jack Brooks singled, then came around to score on Drew Smith’s opposite-field RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.

From there, the game settled into a tense regional-final rhythm. Gosztola worked around traffic but kept the Beavers from adding on, finishing with six innings of one-run baseball. He allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out eight, giving Oregon the kind of start it needed in a winner-take-all rivalry game.

The Ducks broke the game open in the seventh, and it happened without a big swing.

Burke-Lee Mabeus opened the inning with a walk. After Josh Proctor made a diving catch in left field to rob Naulivou Lauaki Jr. of extra bases, Maddox Molony singled and Jax Gimenez walked to load the bases with one out.

Oregon State turned to closer Albert Roblez, but the Ducks stayed patient. Brooks drew a five-pitch walk to force in the go-ahead run. Ryan Cooney followed with another bases-loaded walk, this one on a full count, to make it 3-1. Angel Laya then beat out a potential double-play ball, allowing another run to score and pushing Oregon’s lead to 4-1.

That was more than enough for the bullpen.

Luke Morgan struck out the side in the seventh while stranding a two-out double. Tanner Bradley worked around another double in the eighth. Devin Bell closed it out with a clean ninth inning, retiring the Beavers in order and sending the Ducks into the next round.

Altogether, Gosztola, Morgan, Bradley, and Bell held Oregon State to one run and combined for 14 strikeouts. It was a fitting end to a dominant weekend on the mound for Oregon, which had to navigate a regional field that included Oregon State and Washington State.

The atmosphere matched the moment. More than 25,000 fans attended the six games at PK Park over the weekend, and Sunday night gave them the rivalry postseason game this state had never seen before. Oregon State had beaten Washington State earlier in the day to earn a shot at the Ducks, but Oregon made sure the regional ended with the home team celebrating.

Up Next

The Ducks now head to Austin two wins away from the program’s first College World Series appearance. Sunday was the final game of the season at PK Park, but Oregon’s season is still very much alive. The Ducks open the Austin Super Regional against Texas on Saturday.

Oregon baseball’s postseason redemption tour is headed to Austin.
