The MLB trade deadline is still two months away, but that didn’t stop the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> from making a trade on June\u00a01.<\/p>\n

The Pirates announced on Monday night that they’ve traded right-handed relief pitcher Justin Lawrence<\/a> to the Minnesota Twins<\/a> in exchange for cash considerations.<\/p>\n

The move doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as Lawrence was DFA’ed a few days ago to clear a roster space for Jared Jones<\/a> in his return from the injured list.<\/p>\n

Lawrence, 31, struggled out of Pittsburgh’s bullpen this season, going 0-2 with a 5.32 ERA, a 5.35 FIP, a\u00a01.55 WHIP and\u00a0-0.7 WAR in 22 innings.<\/p>\n

He was unable to replicate his success with the Pirates last year, when he logged a career-best 0.51 ERA in\u00a017 2\/3 innings. He’s also a significant reason why Pittsburgh’s bullpen has struggled this season.<\/p>\n

Lawrence has been up and down throughout his six-year career, going\u00a013-14 with a 5.05 ERA in 233 2\/3 innings. He’ll try to turn things around with the Twins, who are third in the AL Central after beating the Chicago White Sox<\/a> on Monday night.<\/p>\n
