The Seattle Mariners<\/a> are still the only team in Major League Baseball to never make a World Series appearance.<\/p>\n

Seattle is looking to change that this season after falling short in last year’s ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One way the Mariners could increase their odds of clinching the pennant is by having a superb trade deadline. Their bullpen is strong, but another veteran arm never hurts.<\/p>\n

Aroldis Chapman<\/a> from the Boston Red Sox<\/a> could be on the move this August, as his squad is struggling mightily and could trade pieces away at the deadline.<\/p>\n

“Chapman’s contract includes a $13 million option for 2027 that vests with 40 innings this year, so he’s not really a rental, which could appeal to some teams,” Mike Axisa of CBS Sports <\/a>wrote. “Even at age 38, Chapman has again been out-of-this-world good this season.”<\/p>\n

Axisa connected Chapman to several clubs, even a reunion<\/a> with the New York Yankees<\/a>. The Mariners are another team that could show interest in the flamethrower.<\/p>\n

“I wouldn’t rule out the Mariners\u00a0as a possible landing spot for Chapman,” Axisa added. “There’s no such thing as too many good relievers.”<\/p>\n

The eighth and ninth innings of Chapman and Andres Munoz would be a nightmare for opposing teams. Not to mention, both Matt Brash<\/a> (0.69 ERA) and hard-throwing lefty Jose A. Ferrer (1.69 ERA) are also late-game options.<\/p>\n

Trading for Chapman would give the Mariners plenty of reassurance that the bullpen could hold leads in the playoffs, potentially bringing them one step closer to the franchise’s first World Series.<\/p>\n
