The match makes pretty much perfect sense.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Jeff Passan suggested in a new article<\/a> on Thursday that the Cleveland Guardians<\/a> should consider trading for Colorado Rockies<\/a> outfielder Mickey Moniak<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cleveland is contending. Colorado is not. Moniak would fit a major need.<\/p>\n

The Guardians’ outfield hasn’t hit enough for years, and that might still be true to an extent this season, particularly with Steven Kwan<\/a>‘s struggles.<\/p>\n

Moniak has hit better in Coors Field than elsewhere, but it’s clear he has talent. He was the No. 1 overall pick a decade ago.<\/p>\n

The Guards have added young help to Jose Ramirez<\/a>, especially in the former of another top pick, Travis Bazzana.<\/p>\n

Cleveland owes it to its roster to take a swing and go for it a bit.<\/p>\n

“Adding a bat like Moniak would be perfect for the Guardians: He contract won’t cost much in salary ($4 million) or prospects, he can spell\u00a0Steven Kwan\u00a0in center field and even if he was doing most of his damage at Coors Field before he was injured, the 28-year-old would add to the Guardians’ slug that ranks 27th\u00a0in MLB,” Passan writes.<\/p>\n

Passan goes on to acknowledge that the Guardians are never big buyers. He writes that they could trade away Rhys Hoskins<\/a> despite their prominent place in contention.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to expect the Guardians to make many major moves, but Moniak wouldn’t be that crazy. His cost would be reasonable, and he’d have a great chance of helping Cleveland.<\/p>\n

If the Rockies are up for considering it, Cleveland should certainly make a call and see what might happen.<\/p>\n
