The Boston Red Sox added relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle, a Shaker High School graduate, to their roster before this afternoon\u2019s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.<\/p>\n
To make room for Kahnle, the Red Sox transferred shortstop Trevor Story to the 60-day injured list.<\/p>\n
Kahnle has appeared in 18 games with a 1.40 earned-run average this season for the Worcester Red Sox, Boston\u2019s Triple-A affiliate.<\/p>\n
Kahnle signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox in the offseason. He opted out of his contract on Tuesday, leaving the Red Sox 48 hours to promote him or trade him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kahnle, 36, will pitch for his sixth major-league team following stints with the Rockies, White Sox, Dodgers, Yankees and Tigers.\u00a0 He has a 3.61 career ERA and 17 saves in 456 games, all in relief.<\/p>\n
