NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 Ryan McMahon<\/a> hit a go-ahead single in the seventh inning, Carlos Rod\u00f3n<\/a> combined with three relievers on a two-hitter and the New York Yankees<\/a> beat the Cleveland Guardians<\/a> 2-1 Thursday to salvage the finale of a three-game series that star Aaron Judge<\/a> missed.<\/p>\n

New York manager Aaron Boone said before the game that the team was awaiting an update on Judge, who has a bruised rib on his right side that is causing shoulder pain. After the game, Boone said they were still awaiting an update from a specialist in Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jazz Chisholm<\/a> Jr. hit a tying sacrifice fly in the fourth and started the seventh-inning rally with a one-out walk from Codi Heuer<\/a> (0-1). Chisholm stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch during consecutive pitches, then scored on McMahon\u2019s single as the Yankees went on to win for the seventh time in 10 games.<\/p>\n

Rod\u00f3n allowed one run and two hits in six innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. Stuart Fairchild<\/a> hit an RBI single in the fourth.<\/p>\n

Brett Headrick (4-1) pitched the seventh, and Fernando Cruz<\/a> tossed a perfect eighth. David Bednar<\/a> got three groundouts for his 13th save in 15 chances.<\/p>\n

PHILLIES<\/a> 6, PADRES 4<\/p>\n

PHILADELPHIA (AP) \u2014 Adolis Garc\u00eda<\/a> hit his first home run in nearly a month, Zack Wheeler<\/a> allowed two hits in seven innings and Philadelphia passed San Diego<\/a> in the NL wild-card standings with a victory to complete a season sweep.<\/p>\n

Garc\u00eda, who signed with Philadelphia in the offseason to provide right-handed power to the lineup, went deep for the first time since May 6. His fifth homer this season came off San Diego starter Lucas Giolito<\/a> (2-1) in the fifth inning to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Wheeler (5-1) took a no-hitter into the sixth before it was broken up on a bloop single by Bryce Johnson<\/a>. Wheeler allowed two runs on a homer by Manny Machado<\/a> while striking out eight.<\/p>\n

The Phillies completed their second sweep of the Padres in a week, winning all six games this season. They are 24-10 under interim manager Don Mattingly and have gone from 10 games under .500 to a wild-card position in 37 days.<\/p>\n

Bryson Stott<\/a>, Trea Turner<\/a> and Alec Bohm<\/a> had RBI singles for the Phillies, who have won seven of their last nine games.<\/p>\n

BOSTON (AP) \u2014 Coby Mayo<\/a> hit a bases-clearing double in a six-run first inning to help Baltimore<\/a> beat Boston<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Taylor Ward<\/a> had three hits including a leadoff double and an RBI single in that first inning, which tied the Orioles\u2019 most runs in a single frame this season.<\/p>\n

Adley Rutschman<\/a> extended his on-base streak to 15 games on an RBI single, one game shy of his longest career streak.<\/p>\n

Leody Taveras<\/a> drove in another run in the first, and all but one run came with two outs. Carlos Narv\u00e1ez<\/a> got the Red Sox out of the inning with a successful ABS challenge, his eighth strikeout gained via ABS.<\/p>\n

Samuel Basallo<\/a> drove in another in the fifth with an RBI double, and Colton Cowser<\/a> added a sacrifice fly to stretch the O\u2019s lead to 8-0.<\/p>\n

Trevor Rogers<\/a> (3-6) carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and surrendered one run while striking out five.<\/p>\n

Willson Contreras<\/a> drove in the only runs for the Red Sox with a sixth-inning RBI single and a ninth-inning 403-foot homer.<\/p>\n

Brayan Bello<\/a> (2-6) continued to struggle as a starter, allowing seven hits and eight runs in five innings. He has a 9.68 ERA in 30 2\/3 innings when starting, and a 0.71 ERA in 25.1 innings as a reliever.<\/p>\n

GIANTS 12, BREWERS 9<\/p>\n

MILWAUKEE (AP) \u2014 Casey Schmitt<\/a> homered on the game\u2019s first pitch, Eric Haase<\/a> hit the San Francisco<\/a>‘s fifth grand slam in a 17-game span as they opened a nine-run lead in a win over Milwaukee for a a four-game split.<\/p>\n

Jung Hoo Lee<\/a> had four of the Giants\u2019 20 hits, and Chapman and Bryce Eldridge<\/a> three each. San Francisco scored six times in the seventh inning, opening a 12-3 lead.<\/p>\n

The Giants\u2019 five slams in 17 games is the shortest span in team history; they hit five over 23 games from April 14 to May 10, 1970.<\/p>\n

ATLANTA (AP) \u2014 Chad Dallas<\/a> allowed one run in 3 2\/3 innings in his major league debut<\/a> and combined with five other Toronto<\/a> pitchers on a four-hitter as it beat Chris Sale<\/a> and Atlanta to end a four-game losing streak.<\/p>\n

Myles Straw<\/a> drove in three runs on two hits in Toronto\u2019s 16-hit attack.<\/p>\n

Sale (8-4) allowed three runs on a season-high 10 hits in 5 2\/3 innings. Straw singled in two runs and Charles McAdoo added a run-scoring single in Toronto\u2019s three-run third<\/a> inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/a>, who doubled and scored in the third, and Ernie Clement<\/a> each had three hits.<\/p>\n

Tyler Heineman<\/a> doubled in two runs off Reynaldo L\u00f3pez<\/a> in Toronto\u2019s four-run ninth.<\/p>\n

Toronto left-hander Mason Fluharty<\/a> made his 33rd appearance of the season and recorded the first four outs as the opener in only his third career start. Dallas (1-0), who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo, allowed two hits and one run with two walks and two strikeouts.<\/p>\n

HOUSTON (AP) \u2014 Ryan O\u2019Hearn<\/a> homered and drove in three runs to lead Pittsburgh<\/a> to a win over Houston.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Hearn hit an RBI single in the first inning and his two-run homer in the sixth made it 4-0.<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh\u2019s Jared Jones<\/a> (1-0) allowed four hits and walked two in five scoreless innings. Carmen Mlodzinski<\/a> gave up four hits and a run the rest of the way to get his first save. It was his first work since being put on the restricted list for a day after general manager Ben Cherington told reporters he wasn\u2019t ready to pitch Sunday<\/a> following a move to the bullpen.<\/p>\n

Isaac Paredes<\/a> hit a solo homer in the sixth inning for the Astros to become the fourth Mexican-born player in the MLB history to reach 100 for his career. But it wasn\u2019t nearly enough to keep Houston from its third loss in four games.<\/p>\n

The Pirates\u2019 run of four straight games in which they scored at least nine runs ended. But they still generated plenty of offense to bounce back and take the series after a late-game collapse<\/a> cost them Wednesday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n

CHICAGO (AP) \u2014 Pete Crow-Armstrong\u2019s bloop RBI single capped a four-run ninth<\/a> inning and Chicago beat the Athletics<\/a> to avoid a three-game series sweep.<\/p>\n

Crow-Armstrong also hit a solo homer, his ninth of the season, in the sixth inning for Chicago, which had lost three straight and 14 of 17.<\/p>\n

Joel Kuhnel<\/a> (1-2) gave up five Chicago hits in the ninth inning and was tagged for all four runs. Luis Medina<\/a> replaced him with two outs and surrendered the tying single to Dansby Swanson<\/a> before Crow-Armstrong\u2019 knocked in Seiya Suzuki<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ian Happ<\/a> homered and drove in three runs for Chicago, which banged out seven hits in the ninth inning after just four hits in the first eight innings. Ryan Rolison<\/a> (4-1) worked the final 1 1\/3 innings for the Cubs.<\/p>\n

Shea Langeliers<\/a> hit two of the Athletics\u2019 four homers and drove in three runs. Tyler Soderstrom<\/a> and Jonah Heim<\/a> added consecutive homers in the seventh inning that gave the A\u2019s a seemingly comfortable 6-1 lead.<\/p>\n

Happ had a 446-foot homer to right, a two-run shot off reliever Scott Barlow<\/a> that nearly cleared the right-field bleachers in the bottom of the seventh, tightening the score.<\/p>\n
