Coming off one of their better victories of the season, the Red Sox were likely hoping to ride some momentum into Saturday night’s nationally televised game in the Bronx. Alas, Mother Nature had other plans.<\/p>\n
Roughly a half-hour into a rain delay, the Yankees announced that Saturday night’s game had been officially postponed.<\/p>\n
The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader, but not until Aug. 29. The two teams are scheduled for a nationally televised that night, and the makeup game will take place beginning at 1:05 p.m.<\/p>\n
The Yankees, perhaps not coincidentally, hope to have Aaron Judge\u00a0back in their lineup by the end of the summer, after he was placed on the injured list this week.<\/p>\n
The Red Sox will still go with Ranger Suarez to start on Sunday, after he was scheduled to start on Saturday, thereby pushing Connelly Early\u00a0to Monday’s series opener in Tampa. But the Yankees will keep Cam Schlittler\u00a0as Sunday’s starter, pushing Will Warren\u00a0— who had been scheduled to be Saturday’s starter — to Monday.<\/p>\n
Avoiding a Cy Young candidate in Schlittler might have been nice for the Red Sox, but Warren (7-1, 3.22 ERA, 1.197 WHIP) would not have been a walk in the park for Boston batters to face anyway.<\/p>\n
Prior to the scheduled start of Saturday’s game, the Red Sox made a minor roster move, placing Jovani Moran\u00a0on the injured list with elbow inflammation. Fellow lefty Alec Gamboa\u00a0filled his spot on the roster.<\/p>\n
As for the series, at least fans won’t have to wait for a prime-time finale on Sunday.
