{"id":71983,"date":"2025-06-01T21:07:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-01T21:07:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/71983\/"},"modified":"2025-06-01T21:07:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-01T21:07:15","slug":"adolis-garcias-benching-shows-texas-rangers-are-serious-about-performance-over-pedigree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/71983\/","title":{"rendered":"Adolis Garc\u00eda\u2019s benching shows Texas Rangers are serious about performance over pedigree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">ARLINGTON \u2014 Two truths can exist in the same realm: The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/\">Texas Rangers<\/a> have backed off of right fielder Adolis Garc\u00eda, because they want the best for him and the best for the club. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The latter has become a large priority, though, as the Rangers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/2025\/05\/29\/the-texas-rangers-offense-has-been-awful-in-2025-what-options-are-left-for-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/2025\/05\/29\/the-texas-rangers-offense-has-been-awful-in-2025-what-options-are-left-for-them\/\">have leaned further into meritocracy<\/a> in an attempt to save their season before it\u2019s too late to do so. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Production, at this stage, outweighs pedigree. Garc\u00eda\u2019s scale had reached an uneven balance that tipped too far in one direction for an already underwhelming offense to withstand. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s going to be performance-driven at this point,\u201d Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young said Sunday morning. <\/p>\n<p>Rangers<\/p>\n<p class=\"dmnc_features-cta-social-cta-social-module__zWZy- mb-4\">Be the smartest Rangers fan. His 40.4% chase rate this season is a career-high and his .371 slugging percentage is the lowest he\u2019s charted since he became an everyday player. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The 32-year-old will have had five full days off when the Rangers begin their multi-city road trip Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rangers have not yet outlined a return plan for Garc\u00eda but are willing to wait until he\u2019s made the necessary mechanical changes that can \u201cget the best out of him\u201d according to Young. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve got some ideas,\u201d Young said. \u201cWe need him to commit to some of these changes that we think will get him back to the \u201823 version of himself and help him be the player we know he can be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Performance will dictate who plays and who doesn\u2019t play until then. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/2025\/05\/30\/whats-the-origin-of-texas-rangers-rookie-alejandro-osunas-elaborate-at-bat-routine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/2025\/05\/30\/whats-the-origin-of-texas-rangers-rookie-alejandro-osunas-elaborate-at-bat-routine\/\">Rookie outfielder Alejandro Osuna<\/a> has reached base in each of the seven games that he\u2019s played since the Rangers promoted him to the majors last Sunday. Sam Haggerty, a non-roster invitee this spring who stuck around in the organization, has a .722 OPS in 18 games since the Rangers selected his contract from the minor leagues and brings a small-ball play style that may fit this dormant offense well at the moment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Osuna started in left field <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/2025\/06\/01\/texas-rangers-series-clinching-win-over-cardinals-is-how-theyre-all-supposed-to-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/2025\/06\/01\/texas-rangers-series-clinching-win-over-cardinals-is-how-theyre-all-supposed-to-look\/\">in Sunday\u2019s win vs. the Cardinals<\/a> and Haggerty started in right. Outfielder Evan Carter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/2025\/05\/30\/kumar-rocker-evan-carter-update-whats-next-for-pair-of-young-texas-rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/rangers\/2025\/05\/30\/kumar-rocker-evan-carter-update-whats-next-for-pair-of-young-texas-rangers\/\">who\u2019s missed 14 games with a right quad strain<\/a>, is expected to be activated off the injured list prior to Tuesday\u2019s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
