Baltimore designated him for assignment last week when they selected catcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/huffsa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sam Huff<\/a> onto the MLB roster. Wilson cleared waivers and was outrighted for the second time in his career, which allowed him to test the market.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson had spent the last two months on Baltimore\u2019s MLB roster. He got some work at third base, mostly against left-handed pitching. Wilson tallied 46 plate appearances, hitting .231\/.348\/.333 with one home run. He worked six walks against 11 strikeouts. It was a decent enough showing for a bench player, but Baltimore needed to carry a third catcher with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rutscad01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Adley Rutschman<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/basalsa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-06-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Samuel Basallo<\/a> nursing minor injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old Wilson is out of options, so the O\u2019s needed to send him through waivers. It stands to reason they\u2019d like to bring him back on a minor league contract, though he\u2019ll have the opportunity to explore other opportunities. Basallo and Rutschman have both returned to the lineup over the last two games, so the O\u2019s theoretically could reverse the weekend transaction and sign Wilson to a big league deal.<\/p>\n<p>Before this season, Wilson\u2019s MLB experience came exclusively in Philadelphia. He played three years for the Phillies as an up-and-down platoon bat, hitting .242\/.328\/.428 across 245 trips to the plate.
