{"id":726806,"date":"2026-06-15T19:18:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T19:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/726806\/"},"modified":"2026-06-15T19:18:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T19:18:25","slug":"lumbertons-brandon-young-enjoying-breakout-season-with-orioles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/726806\/","title":{"rendered":"Lumberton&#8217;s Brandon Young enjoying breakout season with Orioles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brandon Young knows all about the \u201clegend\u201d of Clay Buchholz in Lumberton.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Buchholz built that legendary status in his hometown by winning a World Series with the Boston Red Sox. A banner with Buchholz&#8217;s picture permanently resides in the baseball stadium at Lumberton High School.<\/p>\n<p>But Young is now developing his own reputation for winning at the Major League level. When he takes the mound, it\u2019s almost always a winning proposition for the Baltimore\u00a0Orioles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Baltimore has won nine of Young\u2019s 10 total starts this season, highlighted by his best performance of the year this past week. Young threw seven innings of shutout ball during a 7-2 win last Wednesday over the Seattle Mariners.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel comfortable and confident,\u201d Young <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/video\/brandon-young-talks-feeling-comfortable-confidence\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">told reporters<\/a> after his most recent win.<\/p>\n<p>Young is a 2016 graduate of Lumberton High School. He played Division I baseball with the Louisiana Ragin&#8217; Cajuns and signed with the Baltimore Orioles as an undrafted free agent in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>He worked his way through the organization and was the Orioles\u2019 Jim Palmer Minor League Pitcher of the Year Award winner in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>However, 2026 has been Young\u2019s best season yet. He currently has a 3.04 ERA to go with 42 strikeouts. Young said his success this season has come from keeping hitters guessing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m throwing four different pitches for strikes,\u201d he said. \u201cJust being myself and attacking hitters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Young recently\u00a0got some high praise\u00a0from his fellow Lumberton \u201clegend&#8221; during the appearance on Intentional Talk. Buchholz said he\u2019s been watching Young closely this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been fun watching you pitch,\u201d Buchholz said in a video prepared for Young. \u201cIt\u2019s not every day that you get to see somebody from your hometown get to do what they love and prepared their whole life to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Young is scheduled to be back on the mound either Tuesday or Wednesday during the Orioles&#8217; upcoming series against the Seattle.
