It was a part-time role last year before the Mariners \u201cmade the permanent move\u201d to have Mentink \u201cwork among a rotating crew of analysts this year\u201d along with former MLBers Ryan Rowland-Smith, Jay Buhner and Dave Valle. Booth notes stepping into the analyst role \u201cis challenging\u201d and \u201cperhaps a little daunting.\u201d Fans are \u201cgoing to have opinions, especially when tied to a polarizing franchise like the Mariners.\u201d For Mentink, being the analyst \u201cfeeds into what she loves about the game that has defined so much of her life.\u201d She \u201clikes the nuance and small details,\u201d and \u201ctries to bring that to the broadcast.\u201d Her first stint in the analyst chair for the Mariners came in 2021. Her promotion into a full-time role this season \u201cmakes her a rarity within the baseball broadcast community\u201d as she is \u201cone of a very small number of women in baseball either in a play-by-play or analyst role\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/sports\/mariners\/how-mariners-broadcaster-angie-mentink-is-making-history-and-making-her-kids-proud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/sports\/mariners\/how-mariners-broadcaster-angie-mentink-is-making-history-and-making-her-kids-proud\/\">SEATTLE TIMES, 5\/11<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-media \">A LOOK IN THE INDUSTRY: In Boston, Emma Healy notes Celtics sideline reporter Abby Chin has started her latest project, a podcast called \u201cWomen\u2019s League\u201d &#8212; cohosted by herself and Revolution broadcaster Naoko Funayama &#8212; that \u201chighlights the stories of women in the male-dominated industry of sports broadcasting.\u201d Chin and Funayama \u201cbegan releasing episodes in March\u201d to \u201calign with Women\u2019s History Month,\u201d but the recording process began last summer. In the first three episodes, Chin and Funayama were joined by guests including ESPN\u2019s Michele Steele, MLB reporter Heidi Watney, and T\u2019Wolves and Lynx reporter Marney Gellner. Conversations \u201care casual and wide-ranging,\u201d but \u201ccenter on their experiences as women in the industry.\u201d Chin\u2019s \u201cmain goal is to celebrate her fellow reporters\u2019 accomplishments,\u201d but she also \u201chopes to bring attention to the challenges women face in the industry\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/05\/12\/sports\/abby-chin-celtics-nbc-sports-boston\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/05\/12\/sports\/abby-chin-celtics-nbc-sports-boston\/\">BOSTON GLOBE, 5\/12<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-media \">THE PERFECT MATCH: MLB Network\u2019s \u201cIntentional Talk\u201d co-host Siera Santos said being on the show \u201cis such an honor just in the way that we are in 15 seasons. And of course Kevin Millar is the glue of that show.\u201d She added her and her co-host have \u201cgood chemistry on the air.\u201d Santos: \u201cWe\u2019re constantly talking to each other, we\u2019re calling each other, texting, putting funny memes, videos, all you can imagine. And a lot of that stuff isn\u2019t going to make the air, but we have the banter behind the scenes in order to make the chemistry really work on camera. &#8230; It\u2019s a fun show to be on.
