McDonald grinded through his shortest outing of the season, allowing five runs (three earned) over three-plus innings while walking three batters and hitting three more. The rookie righty was responsible for one of the runs he allowed when he missed first base in the bottom of the second, allowing a run to score on what should\u2019ve been an inning-ending 3-1 putout.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust a little bit out of sorts with the delivery,\u201d Vitello said. \u201cHe\u2019s similar in so many ways to (Landen) Roupp and (Logan Webb). It was going good for him, and for whatever reason, it got derailed a little bit, in particular, the last two times out. He\u2019s always a diligent worker and always very competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n
One of San Francisco\u2019s lone bright spots was left fielder Casey Schmitt, who had two doubles, two RBIs and hit his 16th home run of the season.<\/p>\n
Schmitt nearly homered in the top of the second but settled for a double when his 394-foot fly ball bounced off the very top of the center field wall. The Giants\u2019 utilityman made sure he wasn\u2019t denied a homer his second time around, sending a 414-foot blast to dead center, his first home run since June 5.<\/p>\n
Center fielder Drew Gilbert also had a three-hit game.<\/p>\n
