The Diamondbacks will select the contract of right-hander Jose Cabrera<\/a> from Triple-A Reno prior to today\u2019s game with the Twins.\u00a0 At least one corresponding move will need to be made to create space for Cabrera on both the 26-man and 40-man rosters, though Ryne Nelson<\/a> could be moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL to easily open up a 40-man slot.<\/p>\n

Cabrera will get the start today in what will mark the 24-year-old\u2019s big league debut.\u00a0 The door was opened for Cabrera when Nelson was placed on the IL earlier this week<\/a> with a partially torn forearm flexor that could jeopardize the rest of Nelson\u2019s season.\u00a0 Between Nelson\u2019s injury and Michael Soroka<\/a> also landing on the 15-day IL yesterday, the D\u2019Backs are suddenly scrambling for rotation depth, so Cabrera might be in line for multiple starts if he pitches well in his first taste of the majors.<\/p>\n

An international signing out of the Dominican Republic, Cabrera is in his sixth pro season and only made his Triple-A debut earlier this year.\u00a0 Cabrera has logged only 16 innings of 3.94 ERA ball for Reno, but for the 2026 season as a whole, he has a 3.69 ERA, 46.8% grounder rate, 26.8% strikeout rate, and 6.7% walk rate over 61 combined Double-A and Triple-A innings.<\/p>\n
