{"id":73562,"date":"2025-06-02T12:35:21","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T12:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/73562\/"},"modified":"2025-06-02T12:35:21","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T12:35:21","slug":"seattle-mariners-see-lower-than-normal-canadian-turnout-for-series-with-toronto-blue-jays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/73562\/","title":{"rendered":"Seattle Mariners see lower-than-normal Canadian turnout for series with Toronto Blue Jays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-franchises \">Canadian Blue Jays fans \u201cdid not dominate\u201d T-Mobile Park this weekend for their series against the Mariners as they have in the past amid President Trump opening a \u201cbitter feud with Canada.\u201d It is a \u201crite of summer in Seattle\u201d &#8212; when the Blue Jays come to town, \u201ctheir Canadian fans will follow.\u201d But it is \u201cno longer always the case\u201d as \u201csomething as innocent as a night at the ballpark has been caught up in the cultural and political battles roiling both nations.\u201d There was still \u201cthousands of Blue Jays fans at Friday night\u2019s game, the opener of a three-game series,\u201d but Mariners jerseys in the crowd \u201coutnumbered Jays and Maple Leafs.\u201d The chants of \u201c\u2018Let\u2019s go, Blue Jays,\u2019 once ubiquitous when Toronto was in town, were scant.\u201d Last year\u2019s three-day homestand against the Blue Jays averaged 35,880 in T-Mobile Park over July 4 weekend. But Friday night\u2019s series opener saw a crowd of 31,564.
