Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts elaborated on what the plan is for catcher Dalton Rushing after his rough night with Shohei Ohtani pitching.<\/p>\n

Rushing called a poor game overall against the Minnesota Twins<\/a> on Wednesday, June 24th, making poor reads with the hitters in the batter\u2019s box and at one point, calling two pitches at the same time, which led to a passed ball that ended up as a run.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Rushing contested Ohtani\u2019s ABS challenges twice; on both counts, Rushing was wrong, and Ohtani was right.<\/p>\n

While the mistakes were bad enough, they were magnified when the greatest player in the sport and an international megastar, Shohei Ohtani, was the pitcher affected.<\/p>\n

Ohtani, a player who rarely shows any emotion other than joy, was visibly upset with Rushing.<\/p>\n

The Japanese sensation stormed into the clubhouse after a frustrating second inning, and for the third frame, he called his own pitches and found more success.<\/p>\n

After the game, Rushing was attacked from all sides by Dodgers fans and picked apart by the broader MLB media world. <\/a><\/p>\n

Naturally, before Friday\u2019s game, Roberts fielded questions about Rushing\u2019s future with Ohtani as the pitcher.<\/p>\n

During the game, Freddie Freeman, pitching coach Mark Prior, mental skills coach Brent Walker, and Roberts all spoke with Rushing.<\/p>\n

Roberts revealed that conversations between the Dodgers and Rushing continued since the Twins game as they try to steer their young player through a low point.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he was in the moment,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cI really feel that going forward, we\u2019ll all be on the same page. It\u2019s not always going to be synced up, but I think that where it got to the other day, I really don\u2019t see that happening going forward. They all care. Everyone cares.\u201d<\/p>\n

Going forward, Roberts said that Rushing will likely call Ohtani\u2019s next pitches, though it is not known whether Rushing will call the pitches or if Ohtani will take over.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Shohei\u2019s very particular in what he wants to throw,\u201d Roberts added. \u201cMost guys are not as, they\u2019re more kind of gray. Where I think Shohei is just clearer on what he wants to throw.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like most things Rushing has done this year, his next time catching Ohtani will be under a microscope.<\/p>\n
