Cathedral Prep beats Harbor Creek for 20th District 10 baseball title: Highlights, interviews<\/p>\n

The District 10 baseball playoffs included several exciting finishes, but in the end, the No. 1 seed won four of the five classes with championship games. Cathedral Prep was the No. 2 seed and the only non-one seed to win D-10. The D-10 champions all moved on to the PIAA tournament this week.<\/p>\n
Here are five choices for D-10 baseball playoff MVP. The poll will run until noon on Friday.<\/p>\n
Kyle Gilson, West Middlesex \u2013 Gilson dominated on the mound in both games for the Big Reds. In the D-10 Class 1A semifinals he struck out eight and allowed four hits in six shutout innings before striking out 14 in a no-hitter in the D-10 championship game.<\/p>\n
Hunter Krahe, Mercyhurst Prep \u2013 The Lakers\u2019 top pitcher put together a big postseason on the mound. He was cruising through five innings in a quarterfinal win against Maplewood and was only pulled to be eligible for the semifinals. Krahe then tossed a one-hit shutout in the 2A semifinals against Lakeview, one of the hottest teams in D-10.<\/p>\n
Brett Schmidt, Titusville \u2013 Schmidt started the D-10 3A playoffs with three hits, one RBI and six solid innings to get the win in a 5-2 win over Girard. He then drove in two runs on one hit in an 8-3 win over Fairview in the D-10 final.<\/p>\n
Frank Thomas, Cathedral Prep \u2013 The sophomore had a D-10 Class 4A postseason to remember for the Ramblers. He struck out five and allowed just three hits in 6 1\/3 dominant innings in a 2-1 semifinal win over Slippery Rock. Thomas then entered the fourth inning of the D-10 championship game with the Ramblers down 2-1 and allowed just two hits in 3 2\/3 scoreless innings to allow Prep to rally for an 8-2 win.<\/p>\n
Evan Stranko, McDowell \u2013 The Cal U recruit struck out nine and allowed two hits in five shutout innings as the Trojans won the D-10 Class 6A title with a 10-0 win over Erie High.
