Wacha\u2019s changeup was particularly filthy, with the Tigers whiffing on it six times on 19 swings \u2014 \u201cIt was dancing for me there for the most part today,\u201d Wacha said of his cambio \u2014 and he threw all his pitches for strikes. Almost all of the Tigers\u2019 contact against Wacha was soft.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was close to the best outing I\u2019ve ever seen him have,\u201d Quatraro said.<\/p>\n

Kris Bubic was phenomenal on Sunday<\/a>, despite not getting the win.<\/p>\n

Still, Bubic tied his career-high with nine strikeouts despite taking the loss. He owns a major-league best 1.43 ERA through 12 starts.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s closing games for a reason in the big leagues,\u201d Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. \u201cYou know, he has a full arsenal of pitches to get people out. He stays calm in the moment and he executes his pitches. He knows what he is out there for. I don\u2019t think he worries too much about who the hitter is. It\u2019s more about if he executes what he is doing.\u201d <\/p>\n

Dan Szmborski at Fangraphs thinks it’s time for the Royals to bring up Jac Caglianone.<\/a><\/p>\n

From a projection standpoint, Caglianone was the biggest mover of the spring, going from a projected wRC+ of 72 to 96, in large part because he had so little professional experience to draw from before. As one can expect, his 14 homers and .593 slugging percentage have only excited ZiPS even more. We now have significant professional play, and in the high minors, so not only has the projection continued to improve, but the error bars have also tightened.<\/p>\n

ZiPS now projects Caglianone, if promoted to the majors, to hit .263\/.335\/.459, good enough for a 120 OPS+ and a wRC+ of 118. Despite his performance this year, he doesn\u2019t project to be an instant phenom; expecting him to come in and immediately turn into Yordan Alvarez<\/a> is probably unrealistic. But the Royals don\u2019t need him to be Alvarez \u2014 though it would certainly be nice \u2014 they just need him to be better than what they have right now.<\/p>\n
