SAN DIEGO\u00a0\u2014 The San Francisco Giants<\/a> have the air of a classic-rock band\u2019s second or third \u201cfinal\u201d tour in recent days. Another city, another maybe-farewell.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thursday night at Petco Park, it was Robbie Ray\u2019s<\/a> moment to take a bow, perhaps. The left-hander worked six innings in the Giants\u2019 4-1 win over the Padres, allowing just the one run and helping San Francisco to its fifth victory in seven games.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There will be no shortage of interest in the 2021 AL Cy Young winner, who was an All-Star as recently as last year. His 3.08 ERA is eye-catching\u00a0\u2014 hi, contenders!\u00a0\u2014 and the 10th-best in the National League. Over his past 10 outings, that number shrinks to 1.65, and in the past eight he\u2019s given up just six runs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tarik Skubal is the hottest trade piece among all starters, though, so the Giants might have to wait until the Tigers deal the two-time Cy Young winner before they find a match for Ray, who\u2019s a steady top-of-the-rotation starter with postseason experience, an even temperament and an ability to adjust quickly.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cRobbie is the epitome of a professional,\u201d manager Tony Vitello<\/a> said, emphasizing how good an example Ray is for younger pitchers. \u201cRobbie is so good at just being locked into what he\u2019s trying to do and not expending energy on anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ray and Luis Arraez are the most likely players to go, given that they\u2019ll be free agents and they\u2019re known commodities. One league source said the Giants are \u201casking for the ranch\u201d when teams call about Arraez\u00a0\u2014 and more than a dozen have called, according to another source. The Padres, Arraez\u2019s former team, are among the possible suitors. Wednesday, Arraez had four hits in what might have been his final home game with San Francisco.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Outfielder Heliot Ramos<\/a> remains a hot topic, too. Clubs such as the Phillies and Yankees, both in need of a right-handed hitter with pop, had scouts in attendance Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Because the Giants aren\u2019t trying to dump salary but to get the best possible prospects in return, in general they\u2019re willing to pick up salary when they talk to possible trade partners\u00a0\u2014 perhaps not when it comes to the big-name, long-term deals (Rafael Devers,<\/a> Willy Adames,<\/a> Matt Chapman<\/a>) but even with them there is wriggle room for better prospects. Moving one of the big contracts remains unlikely, but Devers is only 29 and still piques executives\u2019 interest.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Devers provided one of the more unlikely hits of the season Thursday in the fifth: with third baseman Manny Machado toward shortstop, Devers placed a bunt perfectly down the third-base line for a hit, and later scored on Daniel Susac\u2019s shallow sacrifice fly, barreling down the third-base line and sliding into home headfirst just ahead of the throw.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Devers had a three-hit night and he provided a sacrifice fly of his own in the first\u00a0\u2014 albeit slightly a consolation prize because Fernando Tatis Jr. robbed him of a homer on the play with a leap in front of the short wall in right center.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also a little unexpected: Susac\u2019s continued power surge.
