Manny Machado had three hits and drove in four runs, Randy Vasquez pitched six scoreless innings, and the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 on Tuesday in the second game of a four-game series in Phoenix.<\/p>\n
Jackson Merrill had three hits, two RBIs and two runs for the Padres, who jumped to a 6-0 lead after two innings off Eduardo Rodriguez (10-4). The gap grew to 8-0 in the seventh inning before the D-backs scored.<\/p>\n
Vasquez (7-6) gave up two singles in six innings for his first victory since June 13, his second since May 15. He struck out one, walked one and used only 80 pitches.<\/p>\n
Arizona\u2019s Nolan Arenado and James McCann hit two-run homers off German Marquez in the seventh to close the deficit to 8-4 before Jake Cronenworth had a run-scoring single in the ninth.<\/p>\n
McCann has a nine-game hitting streak since returning from the injured list on July 7 and has an RBI in eight straight games, tying Luis Gonzalez and Paul Goldschmidt for the team record. McCann has four homers and 15 RBIs during his streak.<\/p>\n
Cronenworth had three hits and an RBI while Xander Bogaerts and Freddy Fermin each had two hits and an RBI for the Padres, who have won nine of 11.<\/p>\n
Bogaerts was removed after walking with one out in the seventh. He fouled a 2-2 pitch off the top of his left foot and finished the plate appearance before being replaced by a pinch runner.<\/p>\n
Rodriguez gave up season highs of 11 hits and seven runs (five earned). He struck out four and did not walk a batter in 5 2\/3 innings as his three-game winning streak ended.<\/p>\n
Geraldo Perdomo had two hits for the D-backs, who had won five of six.<\/p>\n
The Padres jumped on Rodriguez early, scoring three in the first and three more in the second. Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled to open the game and scored on Machado\u2019s one-out double. Merrill and Bogaerts produced two-out RBI singles for a 3-0 lead.<\/p>\n
The Padres had four singles in the second, but second baseman Ketel Marte\u2019s fielding error on a potential inning-ending double play with runners on first and second turned the frame around.<\/p>\n
