Longtime Angels star outfielder Mike Trout\u2019s view of his future with Los Angeles wasn\u2019t altered by the \u2060organization being among the biggest sellers at the trade deadline.<\/p>\n
If anything, he saw it as a necessary move in the right direction.<\/p>\n
\u201cNah, it hasn\u2019t changed anything,\u201d Trout said. \u201cWe\u2019re not where we want to be. Doing what we did, I think helps our future. And we\u2019ll \u200bsee where it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trout, 34, is in his 16th season with the Angels, \u200cwho \u200cdrafted him 25th overall in the 2009 MLB draft. He\u2019s under contract \u200bthrough 2030 on a deal which pays him $37.1 million annually.<\/p>\n
However, the Angels have the worst record in baseball at 43-70 entering Wednesday\u2019s action and shipped off five players \u2060at the deadline in right-handed starter Jose Soriano, slugging outfielder Jo Adell and relievers Ryan Zeferjahn, Brent \u2060Suter and Kirby Yates.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got to look at ourselves in the mirror,\u201d Trout said. \u201cWe\u2019re not where we want to be. I think the best \u200bstep in the best direction \u2060to turn things around is to do what we did. It\u2019s tough seeing your teammates go. Built great relationships with all the \u2060guys. It\u2019s a \u200bfamily. It\u2019s a brotherhood. We see these guys more than our \u200bregular family. That\u2019s the toughest thing, but we got some great prospects \u200bin return.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trout \u200cwas brought into the front office\u2019s trade room a few days ahead of the deadline to be informed of the plans and the team\u2019s trajectory.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe truly loves the game of baseball and so he was just curious of \u200cwhat this whole thing looked like,\u201d interim general manager John Mozeliak said of the decision to keep Trout somewhat in the loop. \u201cHe\u2019s the face of this franchise, and from where I stand, we want to get this better for him and for others because our fans want to \u200bsee \u200bwinning, and that\u2019s the goal of what we\u2019re trying to accomplish.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trout \u200bclarified this visit did not include him offering input on players he thought the team \u2060should acquire or ship off.<\/p>\n
The three-time American League MVP and 12-time All-Star went through a rough patch of availability from 2021 to 2024, playing more than 82 games just once in those four seasons.<\/p>\n
He played 130 games last year, though, and is \u200bat 94 games played this season, posting a .245 average with 18 homers and 40 RBIs while snapping a two-year drought of All-Star recognition.<\/p>\n
