{"id":773820,"date":"2026-08-09T03:42:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T03:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/773820\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T03:42:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T03:42:13","slug":"regina-red-sox-force-decisive-baseball-playoff-game-against-saskatoon-berries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/773820\/","title":{"rendered":"Regina Red Sox force decisive baseball playoff game against Saskatoon Berries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regina Red Sox third baseman <a href=\"https:\/\/leaderpost.com\/sports\/homegrown-power-hitting-regina-red-sox-catcher-heading-to-wcbl-all-star-game\/\" id=\"108481\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brady Bye\u2019s three-run homer<\/a> on Saturday kept alive his team\u2019s chances of repeating as the Western Canadian Baseball League champions.<\/p>\n<p>With one out and facing an 0-1 count in the bottom of the fifth inning, Bye homered over Currie Field\u2019s right-field fence to provide the go-ahead runs in a 5-3 victory over the Saskatoon Berries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe threw me a slider and it leaked in the middle a little bit,\u201d said Bye, whose blast drove in teammates Jalen Meyers and Ian Montz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was gonna sit in it and I got lucky to cut it out front and made a nice swing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saskatoon got a two-run homer from Ethan Murdoch and was leading 3-2 when Bye, before a hometown crowd of 975, homered off losing pitcher Merek Yeager.<\/p>\n<p>The best-of-three East semifinal is tied 1-1. Saskatoon won the opener 7-3 on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s Picks\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou look around the room, see the faces, and you know the guys,\u201d said Red Sox manager Braydon Cobb.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou do it for them. You do it for the seniors who won\u2019t be back next year. And you play the game you\u2019ve been playing since you were four years old.<\/p>\n<p>Game Three is slated for Sunday, 7 p.m., in Saskatoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re still having fun and we\u2019re just getting started,\u201d said Cobb, who took over the on-field managing duties July 17 as a replacement for <a href=\"https:\/\/leaderpost.com\/sports\/red-sox-manager-has-long-relationship-with-reginas-baseball-franchises\/\" id=\"101989\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rye Pothakos.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pothakos was Regina\u2019s director of baseball operations and field manager last season, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/leaderpost.com\/sports\/regina-red-sox-rally-to-win-wcbl-championship-against-sylvan-lake-gulls\/\" id=\"109209\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Sox won their first league championship since 2012.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Left-hander Samuel Jackson was the winning pitcher for Regina after allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out five batters. Right-handed reliever Kris Hahn earned a save with 2 1\/3 scoreless innnings.<\/p>\n<p>Saskatoon placed second in the East with a 38-18 record. Regina was third at 26-30.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of this series advances to the East final against the second-place Moose Jaw Miller Express.
