Newly acquired Red Sox catcher Adley Rutschman<\/a>\u00a0was expected to come off the injured list Tuesday, interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters in Toronto.<\/p>\n

Rutschman, who has been out since July 18 because of left wrist inflammation, went through a pregame workout at Rogers Centre on Tuesday and if all went well, would be activated ahead of Boston’s game Tuesday night against the Blue Jays.<\/p>\n

Rutschman joined Boston ahead of the MLB trade deadline last Monday, with the Red Sox trading prospects Anthony Eyanson, Kyson Witherspoon and Enddy Azocar, catcher Carlos Narvaez<\/a> and a player to be named later to the Baltimore Orioles<\/a> for the three-time All-Star.<\/p>\n

Rutschman had a two-game rehab stint with Triple-A Worcester over the weekend, starting at catcher and then designated hitter, going a combined 1-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. He then flew to Toronto and joined the Red Sox, who opened a three-game series against the Blue Jays on Monday night.<\/p>\n

Boston is currently carrying two catchers on its big league roster — Connor Wong<\/a> and Jake Rogers<\/a>. Rogers was acquired from Baltimore as part of the Rutschman deal.<\/p>\n

Tracy indicated the team was unlikely to carry three catchers once Rutschman was activated.<\/p>\n
